Unit VII Lesson 1

Geometry: Plane Figures: squares, rectangles, parallelograms, rhombus, trapezoid, triangles, circles.

The 2014 GED mathematical reasoning test will give you formulas for various 2-D and 3-D figures for area, surface area, perimeter, and volume; check out the official formula sheet. But notice that you will have to know which shape you are working with, what formula to use, and what the letters within the formula stand for!  So do not neglect to practice these calculations using the formula sheet.

Start with an overview of quadrilaterals and triangles, learn to identify the specific type of quadrilateral, then show that you do know the names of specific types as well as the properties of these types.

Now what about circles? Learn the parts of the circle and learn about the all-important amazing Pi and how it relates to the radius and circumference of ANY circle. Now test your understanding of the parts of the circle here

Once you get the naming and properties clear in your mind, progress on to calculations of area, perimeter, surface area and volume in subsequent lessons.

On to lesson 2, perimeter and area, with special attention to triangles.
