I'm consumed by other projects in this moment, so I pay little attention to GDocs. My next goal is to move synchronization into separate service and change internal document format to simple HTML (read rich-text editing). I hope that moving to HTML should help to solve sync issues. From my experience, I can tell that Google has less issues in API with HTML comparing to other formats.
I hope I'll have some time soon to get arms dirty.
Recently, I have received many complaints about synchronization. I suspect that Google during the transition to new documents format messed something in Document API (http://code.google.com/p/gdata-issues/issues/detail?id=2061).
At this point I am trying to figure work around.
BTW, my hack to PDF viewing died as well.
What are they doing over there? ;)
Google recently released new document format for document in Google Documents (https://docs.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=176442). Apparently, they forgot include proper support of that format in Document List Data API which is used in GDocs for accessing documents.
How does this affect GDocs? GDocs cannot show documents in new format (documents, spreadsheets, etc.). PDFs and the rest of the files are not affected.
GDocs will work correctly only with documents created in old format. To do this, please uncheck "New version of Google documents" in Google Documents Settings, 'Editing' tab.
Stay tuned for more info on this problem.
Problem is isolated, there was small fix in API from Google side, which ended up in error on GDocs side, which is finally fixed and will be delivered in version 0.8.9
Discussion located here: http://groups.google.com/group/gdocs-for-android/browse_thread/thread/85239119c1fa539f.
This issue is fixed in version 0.8.8
GDocs (0.8.5) and GDocs IO Extras (1.0.4) support new feature of Google Docs - loading and uploading files of any format and conversion into Google Document format. Only Premier account users will be able to upload (import) files other then documents to their account from GDocs IO Extras. In new version of GDocs you can send message with attached file in any format.
Finally, I manage to combine everything that I wanted to see in GDocs, viewing any type of document and editing text and spreadsheets. Next step is fixing errors.
In future versions, I plan to implement some basic text formatting and getting private Google Accounts on board.
I received many bug reports from Hero owners about force closing on application start.
Apparently this bug related to the unusual caching of installed application. In every bug report I collect some info about version and phone model.
App Version: 0.6.4
This info appears in versions newer 0.7.3, however every bug report that I get from Heros application version is showed as 0.6.4. This means originally installed application so strangely cached that only part of application gets updated.
Many people report that after phone reboot, application gets corrupted again. I feel for Hero owners, but the only solution for this problem is coming phone update from manufacturers (HTC/Sprint/etc). I have an idea how to fix F/C when GDocs starts, but I won't guarantee that Hero update mechanism messes up something else.
Simple PDF viewer is going to be presented in new version. Thanks to new Google viewer for PDFs - GView.
Along with that new German and French translations going to be available.
I've just found out that new Google Document API (v 3.0) has limit on returned documents list size. It's 100 documents at one call. So, fix is coming.
