 I am Prof G C Nandi. Currently, working as the senior most Professor (HAG) and Advisor  of  the premier  Indian Institute of Information Technology, Allahabad. I also performed the duties of the DIRECTOR from Jan 2014-April 2014 and July 2016 to May 2017 during the critical phases of transition of the institute. 
I try to motivate my students towards creativity and teach them how to learn! It is a wonderful experience for me to interact with such talented young minds.
It is amazing to see that my area of interest and specialization Artificial Intelligence and Robotics, on which I have been working for the last three decades, has started to revolutionize our society by improving the quality of life. I regularly teach subjects like Machine Learning (Soft Computing), Deep Learning, and Robotics. At IIIT-Allahabad, I have developed a Robotics and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (RAIL- Virtual tour of the laboratory link:https://youtu.be/h-dffwsYIA8) which is considered to be one of the best in our country. Recently, the RAIL has been upgraded and declared as the Center of Intelligent Robotics (https://cir.iiita.ac.in/).  I envision that one day every household will have smart robots who will share our social space, take care of elderly persons, perform various monotonous household jobs, and even share emotions with us and keep us company.  Also those robots will be able to support skill workforce in the factory/manufacturing environment under the Cobotics (Collaborative Robotics) framework. We do intensive research  in these areas so that our dream becomes reality sooner! 
We have recently  developed a technology called AMAL (Adaptive Modular Active Leg), which is a artificial limb, controlled by Biologically Inspired CPG (Central Pattern Generator). It can give maximum comfort to an amputee with minimum cost (approximately US $ 260 as on May, 2019). I work with my team (Under graduate students, Masters students, Ph.D scholars) in the area of Machine Learning , with special focus on Deep Learning and its applications in the area of Collaborative Robotics, particularly in the area of multimodal (using Speech, Gesture and Emotion) human robot interactions, Intelligent Robot Grasping.
