Announcements:

  • Thank You to all who traveled to Halls this past weekend!  A BIG THANK YOU to our chaperones, pit parents, and those who helped in any way to make what we do a success each and every week!
  • Congratulations to the 8 students who represented the GC Band at the University of Kentucky's Band Day held this past Saturday in Lexington, KY!  A special thanks to the Clantons for organizing and making this trip possible for our kids!
  • Thanks to all those who did his/her part in the selling of the Pioneer/Tumbler Cups!  They should be here in about 3 weeks!
  • TOMORROW we start selling Braided Bread (this is one of our more popular fundraisers of the year)!  Each student is asked to sell at least 6 loaves of bread or get $30 in donations.  All orders + $$$ are due by Friday, September 20th!  Order forms will be going home with your child tomorrow!
  • There is some concern that temperatures/heat indices may prevent us from going outside during regular rehearsal time this week.  We will continue to monitor this situation and if it appears that this is going to be the case rehearsals this week may need to be moved to 7-9 instead of 3-5.  Students would be dismissed at regular school dismissal time and would have to return at 7 for rehearsal.  I will keep you posted as we see what kind of heat index is going to be produced by these HOT temperatures this week.  I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may cause but please understand the importance of us being outside the week of our first contest.
  • Friday night is Homecoming vs. Sheffield @ 7pm!  Homecoming activities will begin at 6:30.  Students will need to be dressed in full uniform (theme shirts, marching shoes, black socks, etc.) and in their seats at 5:15!
  • SOME STUDENTS STILL HAVE NOT PAID FOR THEIR SHOES!  I HIGHLY SUGGEST GETTING PAYING FOR THEM AND BREAKING THEM IN BEFORE THIS WEEKEND!
  • Saturday is out first competition this season at Union City – This contest is a prelims/finals event.  There are 14 bands in prelims and the top 10 regardless of class will advance to finals that night.  The contest begins at 12:36 pm.  Our prelims performance time is 3:24 with finals beginning at 6:30.  The band boosters will feed the kids between prelims and finals.  Our meeting time will be @noon that day for immediate departure to Union City.  An exactly itinerary of what will be going on when is attached to this email.  This will be our first competition other than our own of the year.  I hope that many of you plan to attend and cheer on these kids!  To find up-to-date contest information you can go to https://unioncitybands.com/uci.  If you've never attended a band contest before I have attached some contest etiquette from a Kentucky Band Website that is pretty universal across the United States.  All ride home forms for Saturday are due THIS FRIDAY NO LATER THAN 3PM!  NO EXCEPTIONS!!!
  • DON'T FORGET Senior State Scholarship Application deadline is October 1st!  All applications MUST be postmarked no later than TUESDAY,  OCTOBER 1ST!  NO EXCEPTIONS!

I have attached the sign-ups for these rooms.  The prices for the room per student for both night is listed below.  These amounts are not due until Friday, October 18th but these amounts can be paid by selling trophy sponsors for the competitions as noted below.  All amounts will be added to CutTime in the coming weeks!  All chaperone room amounts should be emailed directly to the chaperones from Ms. Sharon.

  • This year for our competition on October 19th we once again be selling trophy sponsors.  Our competition is our LARGEST fundraiser of the year and our trophy sponsors play a BIG PART OF THIS so we need everyone's help!  This  a portion of each trophy sponsor a student gets will go towards his/her state room charge (see amount stated above) and any money a student gets in trophy sponsors on top of their room rate will be put into his/her trip account for the Concert Band's Gatlinburg Trip.  The trophy sponsorship levels are as follows:  $125 for a 1st place trophy GOLD sponsor (student gets $25/trophy towards his/her state trip), $90 for a 2nd place trophy SILVER sponsor (student gets $15/trophy towards his/her state trip), and $60 for a 3rd place trophy BRONZE sponsor (student gets $10/trophy towards his/her state trip).  A list of people/businesses who sponsored trophies last year is attached to this email but obviously we gladly welcome any new sponsors.  A trophy sponsorship form is attached as well.  All forms along with the money MUST be turned in NO LATER THAN TUESDAY, OCTOBER 1ST to be included in the competition program!  If anyone wants to mail a check please turn in the sponsorship form to me and have them mail the check to MY ATTENTION at the high school (PO Box 190 Dyer, TN  38330).  All checks should be made out to the GC Band.
