Announcements:
  • I hope everyone has a safe and relaxing Labor Day tomorrow!
  • Thanks for all those who got out and sold trophy sponsors and donated drinks for our upcoming competition!  We're hoping for a great competition in which we make a lot of money to spend on these kids for the fall/spring band season!
  • Thanks to all those who traveled to Halls this past Friday night!  We really could not do what we do without great chaperones, pit moms/dads, and everyone that helps us get from point A to point B!
  • You all should be receiving your September Financial Statements through CutTime via email soon to let you know what we have you recorded as paying and when.  When you receive your statement, if you see anything that is not correct, please contact Andie Watson at andreadwatson@hotmail.com.
  • This week is Homecoming!  If students are participating in the homecoming "dress up days" then they need to be sure that they have something to change into each day for band class.  Costumes are NOT appropriate for band class time.
  • Woodwinds will play off their “chromatics” warm-up MEMORIZED during sectionals on Tuesday!
  • We will begin selling Boston Butts THIS TUESDAY!  The butts will be available for pick up the morning of our competition (September 15th).  Each butt will be $30 which contains 6-8 lbs. of BBQ.  If you've never had one then you're really missing out.  If you're helping out with the contest that day they are still good reheated or even frozen.  This is NOT a mandatory fundraiser but rather an opportunity for anyone to order BBQ who would like some.  All orders + money are due no later than THIS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 7TH!  The order form is attached to this email.
  • On Thursday night the band will play at the bonfire pep rally that will take place beside the vocational building immediately following the powder-puff game which will follow the soccer game.  The approximate start time of the pep rally will be 8 pm.  We will meet at 7:30 in regular school attire in the band room.  Students will be dismissed as soon as the pep rally is over.
  • Friday night is Homecoming against South Fulton @ 7:00!  Homecoming Festivities will begin at 6:30.  Students must be dressed in polos, khaki shorts, and tennis shoes and in their seats at 5:30.
  • We have our last Band Booster Meeting before our contest NEXT MONDAY NIGHT (10th) @ 7:00 pm in the band room!  We need EVERYONE'S HELP to pull this event off.  We need you at the meeting NEXT MONDAY NIGHT if at all possible.  If you are not able to attend the meeting due to prior commitments and would still like to help out with the contest please contact Jennifer Lowrance so we can get you plugged in and know that we can count on you!  Thanks in advance for your willingness to help!
  • ATTENTION SENIORS & SENIOR PARENTS:  The state scholarship application deadline is October 1st!  You do not have to be a music major to get some money to be in band in college!  Don’t miss this opportunity!  The scholarship application can found on our website under forms and practice tools and is attached to this email.
  • Many of you did not make your September band fee payment of $30 this past Friday.  Please take care of this payment ASAP so that they band can ensure that the booster organization can take care of our bills in a timely fashion.
  • Marching Shoes are in and should be given to your student at some point this week IF they have paid for his/her shoes.  The MTX brand marching shoes is a REQUIRED component of the uniform.  It is suggested that students break these shoes in BEFORE wearing them at a game or a competition.
  • Continue to download and take a look at All-West Music at http://gchsmarchingpioneers.org under the "forms and practice tools" tab.  If you don't have a printer at home I will be more than happy to print off a copy for your student at school.  Simply have them ask me to print them a copy.  Auditions are not until January so a little bit of practice time now will really increase your child's chances of making one of the All West bands when auditions take place in January!

Upcoming Dates:

  • Friday, September 14th - FB vs. Adamsville - 7:00 - We will meet at 5:45 for this game dressed in full uniform.  This will be our first time to wear uniforms so students will need their black MTX marching shoes, black gloves (purchased from Mr. Agee), black socks (midcalf or higher), and theme shirt under his/her uniform.
  • Saturday, September 15th - GIBSON COUNTY MARCHING INVITATIONAL (GCMI)!!!  Students will be required to be on campus ALL DAY!  We will likely meet around 7:30 am and students will be there until 11pm-midnight!
  • Friday, September 21st - FB @ West Carroll - 7:00 pm - The band will travel to this game!  Meet time is still TBA.
  • Saturday, September 22nd – Union City Contest – This contest is a prelims/finals event.  There are 13 bands in prelims and ALL will advance to finals that night.  The contest begins at 10:45 am.  Our prelims performance time is 12:45 with finals beginning at 6:15.  The band boosters will feed the kids between prelims and finals.  Our meeting time will be released when we get closer to the event.  This will be our first competition other than our own of the year.  I hope that many of you plan to attend and cheer on these kids!  The contest schedule has changed from what I sent you last week.  To find up-to-date contest information you can go to http://www.unioncitybands.com/uci-1.html.
