  • Tuesday - Full Band (3-5); Hornline Sectionals (5-6)
  • Thursday - Full Band (3-5)
  • Friday - FB @ Halls @ 7:00 -  We will meet in the band room at 4:30 for immediate departure.
Announcements:
  • Thanks to all those who did their part in selling of Braided Bread and getting trophy sponsors for the competition!
  • A lot of great pictures of our students have been taken and placed on the band's Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/273967556115889/).  You are welcome to join the group to see the photos.  Thanks to all of you who have contributed!  If you have taken any pictures, we would love to have them uploaded to the facebook page.
  • All show music memorization tests are complete and all grades have been recorded in PowerSchool so you can see how your child performed.
  • The hornline will have a Memorization Test over "Amazing Grace" during their sectional time THIS TUESDAY!  Be sure your student has it memorized.
  • Friday night's game will be played at Halls @ 7:00.  The band will meet at 4:30 for immediate departure to the game.  Students will have a few minutes to eat at the concession stand once we arrive (students need between $5-10 to eat) and then begin changing into uniforms right after that.  Read instructions below on how all away travel events will be handled.
  • PLEASE READ:  Since Friday is our first time to travel, here is the process by which we travel.  ALL STUDENTS MUST RIDE THE BUS TO EVERY FOOTBALL GAME/CONTEST!  After a game/contest you have the option to check your child out and take them with you but you MUST fill out a ride home form (attached to this email, there will be some on the band room table on Tuesday, or download a copy off of the band website under forms).  After a contest/game is over we will march/walk back to the buses to pack and load equipment.  ONLY AFTER EVERYTHING has been loaded you can begin to check out your child with his/her chaperone at his/her bus door.  Just because you are ready to leave your child will NOT be allowed to sign-out until EVERYTHING is loaded and I give the go ahead for chaperones to start allowing students to check-out.  At that point you will get your student along with you (the parent) and go to your child's bus and sign (physically sign) your child out with his/her chaperone.  REMEMBER YOU CAN ONLY SIGN OUT YOUR CHILD IF YOU HAVE TURNED IN A RIDE HOME FORM!  If you take your child and you do not have a ride home form you forfeit your ability to check them out for the rest of year!   RIDE HOME FORMS ARE DUE (in my office on the 3rd filing cabinet in the grey plastic bin) NO LATER THAN THURSDAY @ 5:00 for FB games and FRIDAY @ 3:00 PM for contests!  NO EXCEPTIONS!  Your student may NOT be checked out by another child's parent unless you notate on your ride home that they are to be released to them AND that parent can show proof that they have the school board approved insurance to transport other people's children.  See board policy on insurance coverage amounts that are required to transport another child other than your own at http://images.pcmac.org/Uploads/TennesseeSBA/TennesseeSBA/Departments/DocumentsCategories/Documents/3404_29.pdf.  All proofs of insurance are due in printed version in advance of travel.  You can check your child out and then YOU can put them in a car with another parent but we can not release a student to another parent without the 2 above stated pieces of information.  Students who ride the bus back will be given a message by their bus chaperone(s) when we are 30 minutes away from the school so that they can call and let you know so that you can be at the school when we return.  Please pick your child up in a timely manner so the directors are not stuck at the school waiting on you to pick up your child.  The directors try our best to respect your time so please return the favor by being there in a timely fashion to pick up your child.  Once back at the school, students are allowed to ride with whomever you see fit.  They are not required to be checked out at this point.  Remember ALL band students need to be picked up BEHIND the school from all band events so we can ensure that each student has been picked up.
  • Students will sign up for buses this week during band class.  Once a student is signed up for a bus he/she will stay on this bus for the ENTIRE marching season!
  • We travel to games/contests in a caravan (directors up front followed by buses/truck).  We are all in radio contact with each other so please do not get in between the caravan if at possible when we travel.  You are more than welcome to follow behind the last bus.
  • Shoes should be in soon.  Only those who have paid for their shoes will receive them.
  • The September Band Fee Payment ($30) and the next guard fee payment ($37)  is due THIS SATURDAY!  A lot of the band's bills are due on the first so if you are on the band fee payment schedule please make every effort to pay your band fee by Friday in the office or Saturday online via CutTime so that the band can ensure that it can pay all of its bills on the first as well!
  • Continue to download and take a look at All-West Music at http://gchsmarchingpioneers.org under the "forms and practice tools" tab.  If you don't have a printer at home I will be more than happy to print off a copy for your student at school.  Simply have them ask me to print them a copy.  Auditions are not until January so a little bit of practice time now will really increase your child's chances of making one of the All West bands when auditions take place in January!
  • I hope each of you are planning to come and help out at our marching contest that will be held on Saturday, September 15th @ GC!  The contest is schedule is attached to this email!  We are expecting approximately 5000 students, supporters, directors, and staff on our campus for the competition.  It will be a full day and we need your help!  Contact Jennifer Lowrance at JenniferPLowrance@Eaton.com to get plugged in for this event!
  • DON'T FORGET:  For our upcoming contest, we depend on you to help defray some of the costs.  We need each student to bring in the requested product below.  Please ONLY bring the NAME BRAND version of the requested product.  All drinks are due under the table by THIS FRIDAY so we can have an idea of how many we need to purchase depending on the total number that you guys bring.  Thanks in advance!
We request two 12-packs each according to your child's grade.  Be sure you put your student's name on the drinks and place them under the front table in the band room :
    Freshmen – Dr. Pepper
    Sophomores – Mountain Dew
    Juniors – Pepsi
Seniors – Diet Mountain Dew, Diet Dr. Pepper, or Sierra Mist
  • ATTENTION AMAZON SHOPPERS:  If you or anyone you know shops online at amazon.com, they offer a great way to support organizations such as ours when shopping online and it costs you ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!  When you shop on amazon you simply put https://smile.amazon.com in the address bar instead of amazon.com and select the Gibson County Band Boosters as your support organization and then for every purchase you make on Amazon the band will receive a small portion of that purchase!  If not now, please remember this for the holidays.  It's a FREE AND EASY way for the band to make a few extra dollars.
  • ATTENTION SENIORS & SENIOR PARENTS:  The state scholarship application deadline is October 1st!  You do NOT have to be a music major in college to apply for this money.  I am still awaiting Riverdale HS to release the application but students can go ahead and start preparing 2 etudes for the application.  1 etude needs to be fast to show technique and the other etude needs to be slow and lyrical to showoff musicality.  I will get the application out to you as soon as I receive it but you can go ahead and start preparing etudes in the meantime.  Don't procrastinate and wait until the last minute.  The longer you wait the lower quality your audition will be which equals less money offered!
Upcoming Dates:
  • Labor Day is NEXT MONDAY!  NO SCHOOL!  NO REHEARSALS!
  • Next Tuesday (4th) we will have full band rehearsal from 3-5 and then EVERYONE will have sectionals (all winds, guard, and percussion) from 5-6!
  • Friday, September 7th - FB vs. South Fulton @ 7:00 - HOME (Homecoming:  activities begin at 6:30) - Students will be required to be dressed and in their seats at 5:30 for this game.
  • Monday, September 10th - Band Booster Meeting - 7:00 pm - Band Room.  We need EVERYONE if possible to attend this last meeting that we will have BEFORE our contest that we will hold on September 15th!  It takes an army to run this event and we need each one of you there to help make this a successful event!
