Rehearsal Schedule for the week:
  • Monday - Guard Sectional (3-5); Low Brass Sectionals (3:15-4:30); Percussion Sectional (5-8)
  • Tuesday - Full Band (3-5); all other Hornline Sectionals (5-6)
  • Thursday - Full Band (3-5)
  • A BIG THANK YOU to anyone who helped in any way with our annual Preview Night this past Thursday!  It was a great evening all the way around!  The weather ended up being great, you (the fans) were great, and the kids had a strong performance for their first public performance!
  • Thanks to all those who came out on Friday night to help cheer on the football team and the band!  A BIG THANK YOU to all of our pit dads and moms who help us each Friday night!  We simply couldn't do what we do without your help.  If you are interested in helping out with the pit crew on Friday nights or Saturdays at competition we could always use your help.  Contact Donnie Cox at or you can call/text him at 414-6561 today to get involved!  NOTE:  I did get word yesterday that the player from Tipton-Rosemark who was injured at the end of the game did not sustain any spinal injury but just a concussion.
  • MEMORIZATION TEST over the closer (measures X-end) will be TOMORROW during band class time.  Ballad grades should be available for you to view on PowerSchool and grades were posted by # on my office window for students to see as well.
  • Don't forget to pay for your child's marching shoes ($36/pair band; $34/pair guard)!  The shoes should arrive around the first of the month.  Shoes can be paid for using cash or check in an envelope turned in to the box in the band office or via CutTime.
  • Braided Bread Orders + $$$ are due THIS FRIDAY!  Each student is asked to sell at least 6 loaves or get $30 in donations.  If you don't ask people then you won't sell any.  Please make every attempt to do your part and get your 6 loaves sold by Friday.  Bread delivery will be on Tuesday, September 11th and will be available for pick-up after practice that day.
  • All trophy sponsors are due THIS FRIDAY so we can be sure that all sponsors are listed in the program for the competition!  Unfortunately we cannot accept sponsors after Friday due to our deadline with the printer for our competition program so make sure you have them turned in by then.  Remember students will have a portion of his/her room money for state paid for every trophy sponsor your student gets ($25 for every 1st place trophy sponsored, $15 for every 2nd place trophy sponsored, and $10 for every 3rd place trophy sponsored).  Any amount sponsored over the state hotel room rate will receive money back the Friday we leave for state to use as spending money while we are there for the weekend.
  • This Friday the football team will travel to Lake County to play @7 in Tiptonville.  The band will NOT travel to this game.  Enjoy your last weekend off for several months now!
  • The next band fee payment ($30) and guard fee payment ($37) are due NEXT SATURDAY (1st)!  Please make all payments in a timely fashion so we can insure that all of the band's bills are paid on time!  Fee payments can be paid for using cash or check in an envelope turned in to the box in the band office by THIS FRIDAY or via CutTime.
  • One of best ways that West TN has to recognize the BEST OF THE BEST as far as individual musicians are concerned is the All-West TN Honor Band Clinic that is held in Memphis in mid-February.  The All-West audition music will become available THIS WEEK.  Students have between now and January 12th to work this music up before they audition at Arlington HS in Memphis.  If a student auditions (make it or not), he/she will receive lettering credit.  I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE each student to consider auditioning.  The link to the music and recordings (not yet active yet) can be found on our website under "forms and practice tools":  The link should be active THIS WEEK for student's to download and start practicing the music!
  • I hope each of you are planning to come and help out at our marching contest that will be held on Saturday, September 15th @ GC!  The contest right now is scheduled to begin at 10:00 am and finals awards are slated for some time around 10 pm with 24 BANDS PERFORMING IN THE PRELIMINARY COMPETITION!  This means we are expecting approximately 5000 students, supporters, directors, and staff on our campus for the competition.  It will be a full day and we need your help!  Contact Jennifer Lowrance at to get plugged in for this event!
  • DON'T FORGET:  For our upcoming contest, we depend on you to help defray some of the costs.  We need each student to bring in the requested product below.  Please ONLY bring the NAME BRAND version of the requested product.  All drinks are due under the table by Friday, August 31st so we can have an idea of how many we need to purchase depending on the total number that you guys bring.  Thanks in advance!
We request two 12-packs each according to your child's grade.  Be sure you put your student's name on the drinks and place them under the front table in the band room :
    Freshmen – Dr. Pepper
    Sophomores – Mountain Dew
    Juniors – Pepsi
Seniors – Diet Mountain Dew, Diet Dr. Pepper, or Sierra Mist
  • ATTENTION AMAZON SHOPPERS:  If you or anyone you know shops online at, they offer a great way to support organizations such as ours when shopping online and it costs you ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!  If when you shop on amazon you simply put in the address bar instead of and select the Gibson County Band Boosters as your support organization and then for every purchase you make on Amazon the band will receive a small portion of that purchase!  If not now, please remember this for the holidays.  It's a FREE AND EASY way for the band to make a few extra dollars.
