Rehearsal Schedule for the week:
  • Monday - Guard Sectional (3-5); Flutes/Clarinets Sectionals (3:15-4:30); Percussion Sectional (5-8)
  • Tuesday - Full Band (3-5); all other Hornline Sectionals (5-6)
  • Thursday - Full Band (3-5)
  • A BIG THANK YOU to anyone who helped in any way with our annual Preview Night this past Thursday!  It was a great evening all the way around!  The weather ended up being great, you (the fans) were great, and the kids had a strong performance for their first public performance!
  • We simply couldn't do what we do without your help.  If you are interested in helping out with the pit crew on Friday nights or Saturdays at competition we could always use your help.  Contact Donnie Cox at or you can call/text him at 414-6561 today to get involved!
  • MEMORIZATION TEST over the closer (measures X-end) will be TOMORROW during band class time.  Ballad grades should be available for you to view on PowerSchool and grades were posted by # on my office window for students to see as well.
  • Don't forget to pay for your child's marching shoes ($37/pair band; $35/pair guard)!  The shoes should arrive around the first of the month.  Shoes can be paid for using cash or check in an envelope turned in to the box in the band office or via CutTime.
  • Gummy Bear $$$ is due THIS WEDNESDAY!  Each student is encouraged to sell his/her ENTIRE BOX!  Any remaining gummy bears MUST BE RETURNED or your student will be responsible for the difference.  Gummy Bears CAN NOT be sold during school hours after Wednesday!
  • There has been an interest shown in ordering Letterman Jackets again so I have spoke with Jostens who bought out Neffco about the jackets and they have found the original design of the jackets.  The students indicated that they would like to have the jackets in by state so they could wear them.  In order for this to happen orders will need to be placed THIS WEEK!  The Jostens representative plans to be at Gibson County THIS THURSDAY immediately following rehearsal (5:00 pm) to fit students for their jacket.  Order forms are attached.  ALL CHECKS MUST BE MADE OUT TO JOSTENS AND NOT THE BAND!!!  Note:  All balances must be paid in FULL when the order is placed.  All questions should be directed to Jostens directly.  Their contact information can be found at the bottom of the order form that is attached.
  • Our first home FB game will be THIS FRIDAY NIGHT against Obion County @ 7:00!  Students will be expected to be dressed in the same attire as they were last Thursday night for Preview Night and in their seats in the band room at 5:45.  Students have certain rules that they have to follow at FB games and competitions (food in stands, drinks, talking to friends, etc.) so please check with your student as to what those rules are so that you are informed as well.  They will be getting these rules verbally from their section leaders this week.  We will only be marching a portion of the show at this Friday night's game.  I hope that many of you will plan to come out and support your Pioneers and Marching Pioneers this Friday night at the game!
  • The next band fee payment ($30) and guard fee payment ($37) are due September 1st!  Please make all payments in a timely fashion so we can insure that all of the band's bills are paid on time!  Fee payments can be paid for using cash or check in an envelope turned in to the box in the band office.
  • One of best ways that West TN has to recognize the BEST OF THE BEST as far as individual musicians are concerned is the All-West TN Honor Band Clinic that is held in Memphis in mid-February.  The All-West audition music will become available THIS WEEK.  Students have between now and January 18th to work this music up before they audition at North Side HS in Jackson.  If a student auditions (make it or not), he/she will receive lettering credit.  I STRONGLY ENCOURAGE each student to consider auditioning.  The link to the music and recordings (not yet active yet) can be found on our website under "forms and practice tools":  The link should be active THIS WEEK for student's to download and start practicing the music!
  • This Friday the band will begin selling Yeti Style cups with the Pioneer Head Logo on it.  Students will be asked to sell at least 2 of these cups.  More information will be coming home with your student on Friday.
  • ATTENTION AMAZON SHOPPERS:  If you or anyone you know shops online at, they offer a great way to support organizations such as ours when shopping online and it costs you ABSOLUTELY NOTHING!  If when you shop on amazon you simply put in the address bar instead of and select the Gibson County Band Boosters as your support organization and then for every purchase you make on Amazon the band will receive a small portion of that purchase!  If not now, please remember this for the holidays.  It's a FREE AND EASY way for the band to make a few extra dollars.
  • I hope that all of you have October 19th marked on your calendars!  This is the day of our competition that we host and Gibson County!  We need all hands on deck for this date.  Please ask off work and plan to spend the day with us at GC that day as this is our LARGEST fundraiser of the year!
