Andrew Islam, MD, is a native of Dayton, Ohio, where he attended Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School. He completed his undergraduate degree in biology at Case Western Reserve University. While earning his Doctor of Medicine, he simultaneously completed a Master of Science in Applied Anatomy at the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. During his residency training, Dr. Islam spent an extra year in the laboratory of Edward M. Greenfield, PhD, dedicated to researching molecular signaling mechanisms of orthopedic implant loosening. Upon completing his residency, Dr. Islam pursued a fellowship in Orthopedic Sports Medicine at the world-renowned Cleveland Clinic Foundation, where he learned from leaders in the fields of shoulder, elbow and knee arthroscopy.
During fellowship, Dr. Islam gained extensive experience regarding the specialized care of the athlete, ranging from the weekend warrior to the professional athlete. His served as a team physician for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District and John Carroll University. He also assisted with team medical coverage for the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians and Cleveland Cavaliers. He currently serves as the team physician for Sycamore Junior and Senior High Schools.

Dan Schultz, AT: Mr. Schultz asked the Section if athletic trainers can perform dry needling. Reply:
There is nothing in the Ohio Athletic Trainers Practice Act that prohibits an athletic trainer from performing dry needling as part of the athletic training plan of care. However, the athletic trainer must produce evidence of appropriate training and demonstrate knowledge and competency in administering the dry needling prior to treating a client.
