Is dry needling in our scope of practice?
Check this out:
  1. Dan Schultz, AT: Mr. Schultz asked the Section if athletic trainers can perform dry needling. Reply:

There is nothing in the Ohio Athletic Trainers Practice Act that prohibits an athletic trainer from performing dry needling as part of the athletic training plan of care. However, the athletic trainer must produce evidence of appropriate training and demonstrate knowledge and competency in administering the dry needling prior to treating a client.

The 4th Annual Summer Seminar was very successful!  Thanks to all who made it a great day!

Members please note that there are proposed changes to the Greater Cincinnati Athletic Trai
ners' Association Constitution and Bylaws.  The last to these documents was performed in 2003 and in an effort to keep things current with our ever-evolving profession, the executive board is proposing these updates.  There is a link to these proposed changes on the side menu at the top or you can click here.  We, as a membership, will vote on a ratification of these changes at the April 14, 2014 membership meeting.

Winter Membership Meeting: February 3, 2014
A special thank you to Chris Bonnell, AT and Norwood High school for hosting our Winter membership meeting on "Professionalism and ethical behavior in Athletic Training."  Also a big thank you to Ms. Lisa Sweeterman, AT (Wellington-Mercy) and Mr. Joe Kimling (Madeira High School Athletic Director & Dean of Students) for their panel discussion.
What is you sports medicine program doing around school?
Check out what Miami University Sports Medicine recently did!
The Miami University Sports Medicine Staff, in conjunction with the equipment staff, had a friendly competition with the athletic training students in an epic broomball match Friday night at the Goggin Ice Arena. The game ended in a 1-1 tie, with the students knotting it up with under 2 minutes left.  However, both teams left the ice with smiles; a great crowd of student athlete support, a fun bonding opportunity, and a big collection of donations for the local food pantry. We are all looking forward to another hearty competition of kickball in the Spring, and continuing our staff and student bonding experiences while giving back to our community.

Please join the GCATA in congratulating Diana Ivkovich, AT
on being voted as newest executive committee member in the President-Elect position.
