PARTICIPATION IN RESEARCH PROJECTS

  • "Short term and long term effects of external technology acquisition and internal technology development on firm performance". Dirección de Investigación y Publicaciones Universidad Alberto Hurtado. July 2017- July 2018. Principal Researcher: Goretti Cabaleiro.
  • “Innovation in the Economy of Knowledge: Strategy and Organization”. Financed by the Spanish Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness, January 2013 to present. Principal Researcher: Andrea Fosfuri.
  • Objective: This project’s main goal was to study those organizational and strategic aspects associated with an innovation model that is open to external knowledge. Specifically, we : 1) developed a model using Social Identity Theory and the concept of “customer co-creation” to analyze the opportunities and the challenges that might arise when customers and users are engaged in a firm’s innovation process, 2) analyzed the strategies firms might undertake to exploit their intellectual property in an open innovation landscape where the probability to infringe other firms’ intellectual property rights is relatively high and 3) investigated the best solution to organize internally a company that engages in open innovation practices. Decision power might be centralized or decentralized at the business unit level.
  • “The Management of Innovation: Generation, Protection and Commercialization”. Financed by Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation, September 2010 to December 2012. Principal Researcher: Andrea Fosfuri. Objective: This project attempted to study intangible resource management through a conceptual framework where the interaction between different fields of research can generate new insights to the extant literature. The project was divided in three subprojects that were, however, well integrated within the general theoretical framework. The first subproject explored how the growing des-integration of the generation of innovation from its commercial exploitation affects and conditions firm technology strategies both as suppliers and users of technology. The second subproject focused not only on the importance of investing in generating and producing intangible assets, but also on the ability to protect them from imitation, and thus achieve a sustainable competitive advantage. Finally, the third subproject analyzed the increasing importance of “communities” as sources of competitive advantage for the firm.
