4-H Foragers Bee Club

Gloucester County 4-H Foragers

What’s the Buzzz????

Thank you for visiting the 4-H Foragers Beekeeping Club. This 4-H club is designed to introduce kids of all ages into the hobby of beekeeping. Honey Bees are extremely important to our society and food supply. Do you realize that honey bees are responsible for 1/3 of our food supply!!!. In cooperation with the South Jersey and New Jersey Beekeepers Association, our goal is to promote beekeeping as a hobby and ensure we protect the honey bee.

Some interesting Facts:

Did you know that a honey bee produces 1/12 teaspoon of honey in their lifetime….

It takes a hive of bees to fly 55,000 miles to produce one pound of honey…

Honey never spoils and has been found in Egyptian tombs…

The Honey Bee is the New Jersey State Insect.

Organization: Led and mentored by executive members of the South Jersey Beekeepers Association (SJBA), we provide both classroom and field instruction to educate the kids in all aspects of beekeeping. And yes, the children will have hands-on experience in handling honey bees. To answer everyone’s next question…yes bees do sting but…are not aggressive. By nature honey bees are not aggressive and most people that have been stung have been stung by yellow jackets…which are a wasp.

We also work very closely with the South Jersey Beekeepers Association and often conduct our field trips at the SJBA meetings. Please see our list of events on this page.

We encourage you to call with any questions you may have.
