WADOKAI Indonesia

Wado-ryu Karatedo Indonesia (WADOKAI) is the representative organization of the Wado-ryu style in Indonesia, affiliated with the Japan Karatedo Federation Wadokai. It was founded in 1972 by Mr. C.A. Taman, a Nanadan-Renshi Shihan (master instructor, 7th Level) of the Wado-ryu style.

Mr. Taman studied Wado-ryu directly in Japan from 1962 to 1968 under the directions of Mr. Takashi Sasaki of Hiroshima University, and also under Professor Hironori Otsuka, the founder of Wado-ryu.

The Wado-ryu style is a combination of Shindo Yoshin-ryu (a style of Jujutsu) and Okinawa Karate. It is an unique blend of the characteristics from both arts.

Mr. Taman created two separate syllabus for the arts: Karate and Jujutsu. His student can learn just Karate, just Jujutsu or both, with separate ranking and grading systems.

Mr. Ben Haryo, the Chief Instructor of the Goshinbudo Jujutsu Indonesia Club, is a direct student of Mr. Taman since the 1990s, and currently has achieved instructor's gradings in both Wado-ryu Karate and Jujutsu. Mr. Haryo is still actively assisting Mr. C.A. Taman and Mr. Shahrial Taman for training camps when requested.
