Auditions will be held on Monday, May 15th and Tuesday, May 16th at the T.A. Blake Middle School Auditorium, Pound St., Medfield, at 7 PM. In lieu of callbacks, all actors are asked to please attend both audition dates, if they are able to do so. Those who cannot will still be considered for every role.
The Merchant of Venice will be performed on three consecutive weekends:
July 22nd and 23rd at Rocky Woods in Medfield
July 29th and 30th at Powisset Farm in Dover
August 5th and 6th at the Music Court in Bird Park, Walpole
Please prepare a one to two minute Shakespearean monologue, if possible. Actors will also be asked to read scenes from the play. No prior Shakespeare experience is necessary, and non-traditional casting will be considered, including casting women in traditionally male roles.
The Merchant of Venice will be directed by Debbi Finkelstein, who is on the Gazebo Players Board of Directors. Debbi also directed Antony and Cleopatra and Twelfth Night for the Gazebo Players. She is currently the Assistant Director and Stage Manager for Natick Drama Workshop, where she has been corralling kids for almost fifteen years. This year, for the first time, she directed and choreographed a 36-hour musical for teenagers in Natick. Additionally, Debbi has directed Good Night Desdemona, Good Morning Juliet and The Merchant of Venice (Brandeis University) and assistant directed Miracle on 34th Street (TCAN). Debbi has also been acting for as long as she can remember, most recently in the Gazebo Players’ production of Julius Caesar.
