Many of you may know we do an annual drive to somewhere in Central Missouri to meet our cohorts from the left side of the state (i.e. the Volvo Club of Kansas City). In 2014 we went to the old MO State Pen in Jeff City. The year before that found us at the Clydesdale Breeding Farm in Williamsburg.
This year we went to Marceline. Many have likely not heard of Marceline, much less know where it is or why it's famous. Marceline is in north central Missouri, just off of US-36 about 90 minutes west of Hannibal. It's a notable place because Walt Disney spent his formative years there and has said Marceline provided the inspiration for his "Main Street" in Disneyland and Disney World. The town is full of Disney memorabilia, featuring a Walt Disney Hometown Museum. I've been there myself and can attest it is a fascinating place to learn about Disney history.
During our annual Club social event planning session we picked September 19 as the date for our Mid-MO Meet-Up. It turns out that day was the annual "Toon Fest" in Marceline! The organizers of the fest have invited us to roll our Volvos in their parade which kicks off the festival. You can read about Toon Fest here: Toon Fest The town is also home to the Disney Hometown Museum.
