About Us

In 1961, a Southern Baptist pastor, Rev. Roscoe M. Hall, Sr. had a vision from God for a second Southern Baptist Church in Blountstown, Florida. Stepping out on faith, Rev. Hall purchased land at our current location at 17667 Main Street for the purpose of building a new church. It would take eight more years before Rev. Hall's vision would be fully realized, but the beginnings of a new church were formed.

The first service for the new group of believers was held in the Presbyterian Church on Evans Avenue in Blounstown on Sunday, October 30, 1966. 24 people attended to praise God in song, offer up prayers of petition and praise, and to hear the Word of God preached. Just a little over three months later, on February 5, 1967, Gateway Baptist Church was officially organized and Rev. Hall was called as the first pastor. The charter members included: Mrs. Margaret Arledge, Charles Attaway, Frank and Ruth Bracewell, Bernice Coxwell, Herman Green, Rev. John Glenn and Ann Hall, Clement V. Hare, J. L. Hewitt, and Rev. Rosco and Madge Hall.

Almost two years after holding their first church service in the Presbyterian Church, ground breaking services for the first building were held Sunday, October 13, 1968. Six months later on Easter Sunday, April 6, 1969 the building was completed and the first worship services were held in the new building.

The Fellowship Hall, Offices, and Sunday School Classrooms were added nine years later completing the structure as we know it today. In September of 1991, the house next door to the church was purchased to provide additional classroom space.

Today, we continue our mission to advance the cause of the Kingdom of Christ in Blountstown by leading people to Christ and training our church members to follow Christ in discipleship through the preaching, teaching, and study of the Word of God. We hope to be a gateway through which our friends can come to experience genuine salvation through repentance, faith, and trust in our Lord Jesus Christ. It is our never ending desire to see people come and enjoy the love and warmth of Christian fellowship as we worship God together in Spirit and Truth.
