Gary Joseph was born in Jacksonville, Florida on June 20, 1953. He graduated with honors from the University of Florida in 1975 with a BA in Psychology. In 1979, he graduated from Nova University Law School in Ft Lauderdale, Florida with a degree of Juris Doctor and was a member of the Phi Delta Phi Legal Fraternity. He was admitted to the Florida Bar in 1979. He is also admitted to practice in the United States Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit.

From 2001-2008, Gary served as a Traffic Court Hearing Officer handling both contested and uncontested traffic tickets through trial, adjudication and sentencing.

The types of just some of the cases Gary handles includes: speeding violations, automobile crashes, failure to yield, driving while license suspended, operating a motor vehicle without a valid driving license, driving history repairs, registration and licensing violations, running a red light, running a stop sign violations, reckless driving, racing, passing a stopped school bus, railroad crossing arms, failure to yield to emergency vehicle, leaving the scene of an accident, speeding in a school or construction zone, driving with expired registration, failure to have liability insurance, open container, child restraint violations,  parking violations, and many more.

Gary is also a cancer survivor and a member of the spinal cord support group through the Brooks Adaptive Sports Program.
