Strictly speaking The Garstang Lecture
does not come under the remit of the Garstang Historical Society, but it
is organised and supported by some of our members. The
Garstang Lecture was inaugurated in 2012 as part of the Garstang Arts
Festival (every August) with the intention of inviting a respected and
expert speaker every year to address members of the public on a topic of
interest and relevance to Garstang, the wider district and region. Next August the speaker will be Mrs A Wicks of Garstang, a retired teacher and long-standing local resident Last year the speaker was former Garstang GP Dr Francis Carter n his life and times and medical career in Garstang. Previous speakers at the annual Garstang Lecture have been Mr Paul Smith of Winmarleigh on Garstang's old families, Professor Paul Salveson of Slaithwaite on Lancashire Dialect, Mr Michael Fitzherbert-Brockholes of Claughton-on-Brock on his family's centuries old links with the area, Professor James Dodding of Garstang on his life-long work in the field of drama, theatre and entertainment on both sides of the Atlantic, and Mr Alan Pearson who has worked as a vet in this area for many years. |
