Gamma Sigma is the Sigma Gamma Epsilon chapter at the University of Northern Iowa.  Sigma Gamma Epsilon is the National Honor Society for the Earth Sciences.  Gamma Sigma chapter has been serving the Department of Earth Science at the University of Northern Iowa since February 14, 1974.

  • GSA's 125th Annual Meetings & Expo
    Every year the Geological Society of America hosts an annual meeting to bring together Geoscientists from around to the country to present their work. This year it is being held on October 27th-30th in Denver, Colorado.

  • Sign-Up for the Chicago Trip!
    IF you are interested in attending SGE's trip to Chicago on June 2-3, then complete the form found on the Chicago Trip webpage by 5:00 P.M. Friday, April 26.  It is very important that we know who is going to attend by the deadline so we can choose our activities and set a price.

  • Chapter Elections
    Elections for officers of Gamma Sigma Chapter will be held on Wednesday, April 18 at 5:00 P.M in Latham 113.  There are currently nominations on the chalkboard in Latham 113.  You can nominate yourself for an office or you can nominate someone else who you think is worthy.  The elected offices are: President, Vice President, Treasurer, and Secretary.  There are job descriptions on each nomination form.  Only national members of SGE can run for office.  Also, only national members can vote and they must be present to vote.  If you have any questions, contact Matthew Even by email at or by leaving a comment below.

  • Honors Week Seminar Announced
    Dr. Raymond Anderson with the Iowa Geological and Water Survey will be presenting The History and Geology of the Legendary New Madrid  Earthquakes of 1811-1812 at the Honors Week Seminar on Monday, April 9 at 4:00 P.M. in Latham 125.  All are welcome to attend this event.  Stay tuned for more information.
