Lady Captain 2015 Carmel Randall.
Welcome to the Ladies’ Section of Galway Bay Golf Resort
I am delighted to welcome you to the Ladies' Section Galway Bay website. I hope you find it informative and interesting, and that you make full use of the updates regarding the course and activity updates on what’s happening in the ladies club.
I am looking forward to the 2015 Golfing Year. I intend to carry on the good work already started by all the Past Captains and Presidents, build on encouraging more members to become involved in events, and keep working with Galway Bay Golf Resort to do as much as we can for the benefit of the members.
One of the great benefits of being a member of Galway Bay Ladies Club is the generosity and enthusiasm of the members. Our ladies are proud of our friendly atmosphere, and have welcomed four new members this year, increasing our numbers to 53 of which around 30 play regularly in our Thursday/Sunday weekly qualifying competitions.
We are aware that everyone’s needs differ when it comes to playing golf; some enjoying competition while others prefer social golf; some ladies work and can only play on weekends or evenings; others cannot manage the time for 18 holes but still enjoy playing 9 holes, and we have beginners keen to get their handicaps. This year Hilary Power and Kay Hayes have introduced the Tuesday Club which is for fun social golf and it has got off to a great start.
The Club competes in all the ILGU AIG Interclub competitions, the Challenge, Minor, Intermediate, Senior & Junior Foursomes, Junior Cup and Miele; the Burren Cup, a competition which was set up to encourage new people into golf and competitions. It is a friendly competition between local clubs; the only necessity is that you have limestone in the soil on your course; Golfer of the Year which runs from qualifying time weekly; there are annual prizes for Most Improved Golfer Cup, 02 Trophy, Silver Medal, Bronze Medal, Silver Spoon, Birdie Competition and Rings Competition so lots to play golf for..
We have a thriving social life at Galway Bay with a variety of events from Prize Giving on the last Friday of every month, Green keepers Revenge and many more social events. These are all wonderful evenings and an opportunity to bring your partner or friends to the Club if they aren’t golfers.
I would like to thank my 2015 committee and all of you who have taken on roles for your support over the coming year; I have witnessed at first hand your hard work and commitment and I know it will continue.
Welcome to 2015, enjoy your golf and have a great year.
