The Galveston R/C Fun Flyers is an AMA (Academy of Model Aeronautics) chartered radio controlled model aircraft club that flies in the Galveston, IN area. Through the generosity of the Town of Galveston, we have a flying site that costs the club virtually nothing. This allows us to have club dues of only $35 per year. We are primarily sport flyers just out to have a good time. We welcome any new members, whether they have experience or not. As with most clubs, Saturday and Sunday are the busiest days at the field but there is activity during the week as well. Our field is open 365 days of the year. Heck, we even fly off of the snow sometimes!

Our Field
Our field is located at 6340 E. Co. Rd. 1200 S. in Cass county several miles west of the town of Galveston, IN (Field Location Map). It is situated on what used to be a paved octagon pad that military aircraft used for practice and training during the 1940's. (Historical Information) The pad had long since been abandoned as a conventional airstrip and had become overgrown with grass and weeds through the asphalt. It is surrounded by farm land which means that noise is not a big issue. This also allows for a site free of trees and with plenty of area to fly without worry of "putting one in" a residential area. While there is a grass strip on the west side of the property that accommodates full size aircraft, it receives very little use.  The town of Galveston leases the area to us for $1 per year. In 2001 a shelter was constructed which provides some shade on the hot days and protection from unexpected rain. In July of 2017 the town, with the help of the county, replaced the old chip seal runway with a brand new paved 294' x 40' runway. Directly adjacent to the paved runway is a 412' x 40' grass runway. We have several wood safety benches to allow work on planes and starting without having to get on your knees.

Our Planes
As mentioned above, our club is made up of primarily sport flyers. While we welcome any type and size aircraft at the field, the current make up is primarily .40- 90, 2-stroke sport planes in both kit and ARF form. We have some smaller and some larger. Some are absolutely beautiful and some are down right ugly!

Our Members
We welcome any age flyer. We have had members from as young as 8 to their 80's. Everyone is fairly laid back and none of us takes the hobby too seriously. We all try to help each other out in any way we can. Basically, we are just a bunch of guys trying to have a good time. After all, that is what a hobby is all about. Our flying skills range from "still on the buddy-box" to darn good, with everything in between.

Our Meetings
During the winter months we have a minimal amount of meetings. When spring arrives, we start having meetings on the second Saturday of every month at 11 AM. To start out, we have them at a variety of establishments in the town of Galveston. As warmer (i.e. flyable) weather approaches, meetings are held at the flying field.

Membership Requirements:
This being an AMA chartered club, a current AMA membership is required for those that wish to fly.
