I wanted to replace my old Nokia E90 communicator, which mainly used for establishing SSH connection to my Linux server. I tried to use my Galaxy S and S2 for this purpose, but the virtual keyboard is not the best solution for me, so I wanted to have a physical keyboard to my Galaxy.
found a slide out keyboard, which seems perfect, but there was a problem: it is only for iPhone.
Here follows the link to the eBay auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/200648551524
The seller is very helpful, but he wrote: there is no I9000 or I9100 version, so I ordered the iPhone version for $29.99 (including free shipping to Hungary).
Here is what I got:
I'm lucky, because it is dismountable. First remove the sticker:
then the 4 screws:
It is a very good quality product, the mechanic part working like a charm.
The size of the keyboard is very close to the size of Galaxy S, so I decide to mount the keyboard on it:
I wanted to do a trial first, so I used a double sided mounting tape instead of drilling and screws:
I don't want to use the camera, so I don't care covering the lens. It is possible to find a keyboard position when the camera lens is not covered, but in this case it is not mounted at the middle of the device:
The Bluetooth pairing and authorization went fine, too: (Android 2.3.4, Gingerbread)
Now I can use Connectbot as SSH client with the slide out keyboard much faster than the virtual keyboard. Additionally I have much more visible and usable area in the full screen terminal:
Thanks for eBay seller Pro-Hightech-Shop (http://myworld.ebay.com/pro-hightech-shop/) for providing the keyboard.
I figured out the way to mount the same keyboard to Samsung Galaxy S2 (I9100), so now I'm going to order a second keyboard :)
