This is our house. Possibly built in the mid eighteenth century, it was originally known as The Old Cottage and may have been used by people who worked in the Manor House (demolished in the 1960s). It used to have a fairly large orchard attached, from which we still appear to have one tree left... In the basements (one each side of the house) there were tunnels - one to the church (just visible on the left) and one to the pub, possibly the Admiral Keppel (now a better place called the Farrier). The tunnel to the church has been filled in with concrete, the one to the pub still may exist (we haven't tried it yet). Although you can see a road sign for Addelam Road (Addelam being the old name of Deal), our address is Manor Road. This is because Addelam Road did not exist as a highway until the mid twentieth century.
