Benefits of Infrared Sauna

This type of sauna is more comfortable and more healing than saunas that heat the air, which irritates the eyes, brain, and lungs.  Infrared rays penetrate inside the body at least 1 ½ inches, warming the body more deeply, inducing more perspiration, and diverting blood flow to the surface of the body.    This diversion of blood improves cardiovascular functioning.  Perspiring cleanses the body of toxins.  Both these factors strengthen the immune system and increase resistance to systemic infection.

Sauna heat brings healing to damaged muscles and skin  It causes sinuses to drain, improves respiratory problems, enhances digestion, elimination, emotional clearing, and relieves the pain from arthritis and rheumatism.  It assists healing following the initial recovery from surgery, and stimulates cellular and enzyme activity including that of the adrenal glands and possibly the thyroid.  A sauna provides some of the benefits of aerobic exercise; there is controversy whether it helps with weight loss.  A series of saunas can lower high blood pressure and ease recovery from addictive substances.  It is safe for a child over 5 years of age.  Someone who is frail should begin with a 15 minute sauna and consider bringing an assistant; there is room for this second person in the sauna.
