Calculators

Please do your best to get a TI-82, TI-83, TI-83+, TI-84, 84+, or TI-Inspire calculator as soon as possible. I am aware that there are many smartphone apps that have the functionality that the stand-alone graphing calculators have. Desmos being the best one out there currently and it is free, however, you cannot use any internet capable device on any assessment in high school, college or on any high stakes test like ACT and SAT and AP tests. In this class students will learn how to use a graphing calculator, a tool that they will use in all future math or science courses and on assessments that could be critical to future decisions. If you consider the ACT test, which is timed, if a student had a calculator that is their own and that they are comfortable and familiar with, they would not be struggling to do simple calculations, and would get through more of the test or at least have more time to spend on the more difficult problems. A good graphing calculator is an investment in a student’s education, not just for this year, but for years to come. Many can be found second-hand at Bookman’s, at pawn shops or on Craigslist, but hurry! The good deals go fast! If you go with a new one Walmart or Target probably have the best prices. If you do purchase a new one, please bring me the technology points on the packaging. Thanks!
