Creating a Google Account
To sign up for a Google account, go to the Google
home page. Click the link "sign in" in the upper right corner of the page. In the "Don't already have an account?" box, click "create a Google account." After you supply the required information and click "create", Google will send you a confirmation e-mail. You must click the link in this e-mail to activate your account.
Using a Google Account
A Google account gives you the ability to access Google's products, such as calendar, documents, photos, and sites. To take advantage of these free products, simply click the link at the top left corner of any Google web page. The FVHS Science Club will use the calendar, photo, and sites features to display and share information. Using your Google account, you will be able to view and edit these features. You can access the calendar and photos from this site.
About Google Sites
Google Sites is a tool lets groups design and post websites for free. It is also a tool that gives a group of people the ability to edit the site. The FVHS Science Club will use these features so that all members have control over the contents of the site.
Become a Collaborator
Before you can edit this website, you must have a Google account. Next, you must provide your e-mail address that was used to create your Google account to a FVHS Science Club website administrator. Use the contact information provided in the sidebar, submit your e-mail address. The administrator will add you to the website as a collaborator, which means that you will be able to create and delete web pages, edit the content of the pages, upload files and pictures, add comments to web pages, and receive e-mail notifications when the site is changed. Create a Web Page
To create a new web page, click the button at the top of the screen that says "Create new page." A new screen will appear that asks you what type of page you want to create. Your options will be a standard web page, an announcements page, a file cabinet, a dashboard, or a list. Most likely, you will want to select web page. You will then have to name your new page, and select whether you want the page at the top level or as a sub-page to another web page. Finally, click create.
Edit a Web Page
To edit a web page, click the button at the top of the screen that says "Edit page." The editor will then load, and you can use the controls to add and format text, insert tables, choose one or two columns, link text to other pages, insert images, insert Google products, or insert gadgets. When you are finished editing, click "save." If you do not want to save your changes, click "cancel."
Create a Link
To create a link, select the text you want to use as your link and click "link" on the control menu. If you want to link to a page in this website, click "existing page" and choose the page from the list. If you want to link to an outside website, click "web address" and type or paste the desired URL. If you want the link to open in a new window, select the box at the bottom of the panel. Finally, click "OK" to create the link.
Add an Image
To add an image to a web page, click "Insert" and select "Image." If the image is saved on your personal computer, click "Uploaded images," and click "Browse" to search your computer for the image. If the image is from another location on the Internet, click "Web address" and type or paste the URL of the image. Finally, click "Add image" to add the image to the web page.
Format an Image
After you add an image, you will have several formatting options. Click on the image, and use the blue bar that appears to edit its size, location on the page, and word wrap options.
Subscribe to the Website
By subscribing to the web page or website, you will be sent an e-mail every time the page or site is changed or updated. To subscribe to the web page (the specific page you are currently viewing), click the button at the top of the page that says "More actions," and select "Subscribe to page changes." To subscribe to the website (the entire site), click the button at the top of the page that says "More
actions," and select "Subscribe to site changes."
Write a Comment
To write a comment for a specific web page, click the plus sign next to the word "Comments" at the bottom of the page. Type your comment in the box that appears. When you are finished, click "Add comment."
