Welcome to the official website of the Fuquay-Varina High School Science Club!

The Science Club meets every Tuesday from 2:30 PM - 3:30 PM in Mrs. Subat's or Ms. Wood's room (414 & 410).  Everyone is welcome to join!

Activities will include making HUGE bubbles, extracting DNA from a strawberry, building air pressure rockets, and making stuff glow through chemiluminescence. Activities are determined by the members and the interests that the students' want to pursue.

The club eagerly anticipates competing in the Science Olympiad.  The regional competition will be in February at Campbell University.  The state competition will be in April at NC State University. Last year the team placed 4th at the regional, qualifying for the state tournament.  We had 4 first place finishes at the regional and lots of other place medals too!  Hopefully, this year will be just of successful!
We will also help host the annual FVHS Science Night in April.  This is a night where student work is showcased for the parents and community to see.  We also have college, community, and volunteer presenters that highlight the best that science has to offer for future careers and interests.

Upcoming Events

Field Trip

The Science Club will take a field trip after school during the next few weeks.  Check back for more details.

Current Projects

Near-Space Photography

We are researching methods to send a camera into the stratosphere to take pictures of the curvature of the Earth for less than $150.  We will base our design off of the Project Icarus model.

The hovercraft was built out of plywood and a shower curtain and was powered only by a leaf blower.  Watch the video of teachers and administrators riding it at Science Night.
