Ioana Macrea-Toma: Building the CEU Library in the digital age

The main dilemma which arises when imagining the future academic library is one of clashing discourses: how to preserve the traditional features of the library while incorporating the ever more absorbing force of digital media.

Istvan Rev: Notes on the (CEU) Academic Library

Academic institutions do not necessarily need libraries, like the ones we know since the earliest libraries in Nippur and Nineveh. MOOCs (Massive  Open Online Courses, like CourseraUdacity, edX) are not in need of “elegant endowment of shelves, of enigmatic volumes, of inexhaustible stairways for the traveler and latrines for the seated librarian”; their students can do with required or recommended online readings, always at hand, never on the shelves.
