My name is Fu Tan (谭芾). I’m a Senior Investment Strategist at Vanguard, passionate about transforming retirement outcomes through data-driven research. With a Ph.D. in Economics from UW-Madison and degrees from Duke and Shanghai Jiao Tong University, I focus on the intersection of macroeconomics, household finance, and policy.
I lead large-scale studies using 401(k), credit bureau, SCF, SIPP, and HRS data to inform plan design, financial products, and retirement policy. My recent work includes the Vanguard Retirement Outlook, which assesses retirement readiness nationally, and Job Transitions Slow Retirement Savings, which supports innovations in portable savings.
My research has been featured in industry forums, policy discussions, and journals such as the Journal of Financial Data Science, where I explored machine learning applications in health risk modeling.
