Matthias Lochmann is a scientist in the field of training and coaching, a sports physician and a UEFA A licensed coach. He successfully studied physics, sports science and medicine. Since 2008, he has been working as a professor at the Department of Sports Science and Sport at the Friedrich-Alexander-University of Erlangen-Nuremberg. There, he is the head of the Division of Sport and Exercise Medicine. At the university, he is also responsible for the football education program.

He himself played football at SV Darmstadt 98. As a coach, he worked in various positions at the professional youth academy of the 1. FSV Mainz 05. He works as a consultant for numerous professional clubs, many sports associations and the sporting goods industry on an international level.

Matthias Lochmann was responsible in setting up and executing the certification of professional football youth academies in professional German clubs. On behalf of the DFL, he worked together with the Fraunhofer Gesellschaft on innovations in the field of positioning data analysis of the Bundesliga. In this context, he is currently exploring the possibilities and limits of different competition systems for the development of performance and the health in young sports players.
