This site is divided into 3 sections: Basidiomycete spores, Ascomycete spores, and Myxomycete spores.
The spore photographs were taken with an AO Spencer microscope and a ScopeTek digital camera for microscope, resolution 1.3 Mpixels. Photographs are taken at 400x and 1000x (oil immersion) magnifications. Unless stated otherwise, these are unstained suspensions of the spores in water. Spores that exhibit a staining reaction with Melzer's reagent (an iodine solution) are also photographed with Melzer's, to show their appearance with this stain ("amyloid" spores stain bluish, gray or black; "dextrinoid" spores stain brown or red-brown).
