Santa Elena and The Silleteros

Santa Elena, birthplace of the Silleteros in Antioquia, is a mountainous region with the fragrance of a pristine forest located just 20 minutes east of Medellín. To experience it, is to stand in awe of its high-altitude cold climate landscape, to be enchanted by its native forests, springs, wetlands, crystalline creeks, and the beautiful Guarne Lagoon. To visit Santa Elena is to vibrate with the warmth of its inhabitants, their deep-seeded traditions, their homes, their crop fields. But above all, being in Santa Elena is to savor the life of the farmers who made of their life-long occupation of flower growing and vending, a National Cultural Heritage, which comes to life every August during the great Silletero Parade.
