Welcome to ENSEC LAB (Electrochemistry & Nanomaterials for Sensing, Energy, and Catalysis)

We focus on developing novel conformal deposition techniques, the design of electrocatalytic nanomaterial, and strategic integration to breakthrough the existing challenges in the fields of electrochemical sensing, energy conversion, and photo-electrocatalysis.

2024

May  Chia-Yu received "Engineering Professor Award" by the Chinese Institute of Engineer (see the news). Our paper, entitled "Efficient and selective electrosynthesis of adiponitrile from electrohydrodimerization of acrylonitrile over the bismuth nanosheets modified electrode," has been accepted by Green Chemistry.

April Dr. Ftiri Nur Indah Sari received "ISE Travel Award" by the International Society of Electrochemistry (see the news).

March  Zi-Xuan Wan won the Best Presentation Award for his oral presentation, entitled "Stable and Selective C2 product generation from the electrochemical CO2 reduction over copper iodide chemically-modified gas-diffusion electrode," in 2024  International Conference on Hierarchical Green Energy Materials (see the news).

January  Chia-Yu has been admitted to the Fellow member of the Royal  Society of Chemistry. Our Concept article, entitled "Aqueous Electrocatalytic Reduction as a Low-Carbon and Green Route for Chemical Synthesis and Environmental Remediation," has been accepted by ChemElectroChem  (see the paper).

2023

December The R.O.C patent, entitled "鉍基修飾電極及其製備方法與用途 (I829235)," has been granted. 

September Miss Eunice Estrella De Guzman joined our group to perform her MECO-TECO Joint Research Project. Papontee's paper, entitled "Efficient and selective electrosynthesis of 4-aminophenol at circumneutral pH from the electrocatalytic reduction of nitrophenol over the nickel-iron phosphide modified electrode," has been accepted by Materials Today Sustainability (see the paper). The US patent, entitled "Modified electrode, manufacturing method thereof and use thereof (US11828754B2)," has been granted. 

July We welcome new members (Master program): Miss Yun-Chu  Kao, Miss Yi-Cih Luo, Mr. Ming-Chieh  Hsieh, Mr. Meng-Hsun Wu, Mr. Wei-Che  Tsai, and Mr. Yu-Chen  Huang,

May Dr. Elavarasan Munirathinam left the lab and Dr. Fitri Nur Indah Sari joined us as a postdoc. Yun-Ju's work, entitled "Selective electrosynthesis of platform chemicals from the electrocatalytic reforming of biomass-derived hexanediol," has been accepted by Faraday Discussions  (see the paper). The R.O.C. patent, entitled "經修飾之電極及其製備方法與用途 (I805301)," has been granted.

February  Vacancies of part-time and full-time research assistants for electrochemical CO2 reduction and gas sensing are available (send email for the details). Chia-Yu was nominated as a member of Sigma Xi, The Scientific Research Honor Society.

January  The collaborative WUN Global Research Group – SDGs in Asia 2023 Research Project, entitled “Sustainable aquaculture in Southeast Asia via nutrient recovery and bioenergy production,” has been approved.


2022

December  Chia-Yu has been promoted to Professor starting on August 1, 2022.

November  Tzu-Hsuan's work, entitled "Facile electrosynthesis of polyaniline|gold nanoparticle core-shell nanofiber for efficient electrocatalytic CO2 reduction," has been accepted by Electrochim. Acta.  (see the paper).

October Shih-Ching's work, entitled "Facile electrochemical preparation of NiFeP submicron-spheres as an efficient electrocatalyst for the electrochemical hydrogenation of 4-nitrophenol at neutral pH," has been accepted by J. Environ Chem Eng.  (see the paper).

September   Our work, entitled "Environmentally-benign and low-carbon electrosynthetic method for the production of monomers of Nylon 6,6," won 2022 FutureTech Awards (see the news). The first two ourreach videos were released (see the link1 and link2 )

June MOST projects, entitled "Development of high-performance photo-electrocatalytic platform for upcycling carbon waste into valued chemicals" and "Fabrication of Wearable 3-D structurally Hybrid Sensors with Artificial intelligence" (Collaborated project) have been approved.

May  Shih-Ching passed her PhD qualification oral defense.

April Collaboration Project, entitled "Characterization of physicochemical properties of the electrodes materials and performance of NCA based ternary lithium batteries" was approved by E-ONE MOLI ENERGY Corp.  

January Shu-Yu' work, entitled "Electrochemically-functionalized CNT/ABTS nanozyme enabling sensitive and selective voltammetric detection of microalbuminuria," has been accepted for publication in Analytica Chimica Acta (see paper).



2021

October We welcome Mr. Papontee Sae Ong, who will stay in our lab for his Dual Master's Degree (NCKU, Taiwan & KMITL, Tailand). Our collaborative work with Prof. Yi-Hsuan Lai (MSE, NCKU), entitled "Facile preparation of functionalized and oxygen-deficient V2O5 nanosheets electrode as a versatile platform for biomimetic- and photoelectro-catalysis," has been accepted for publication in Chemical Engineering Journal (see paper).

September Shih-Ching won the Outstanding Award in the NCKU Grand Review and Competition for PhD Student Research (see the news).  We welcome new Master members, Mr. Tien-Yu Kuo, Miss Yun-Ju Liao, Mr. Chia-Ying Li, Miss Wei-Hsin Lu, and Mr. Tzu-Hao Kuan. Collaborative work with Prof. Shuenn-Yuh Lee, entitled "Wireless Bio-signal Acquisition System and Platform for Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease," won 2021 Future Tech Awards (see the news). Chia-Yu won the Silver Award in Young Scholar Thesis Competition, College of Engineering, NCKU 

June Chia-Yu is guest-editing a special issue, entitled "Surface Modification for Enhanced Photoelectrocatalytic Activity," which is now open for submission (see details). MOST project, entitled "Development of a highly efficient and environmentally-benign electrosynthetic technique for the synthesis of nylon monomers: development of electrocatalyst, mechanistic study, and fabrication of flow-type electrocatalytic system," has been approved

May MOST project, entitled "Development of amperometric microfluidic sensing chip for the detection of cardiovascular biomarkers in urine," has been approved. Our paper, entitled "Electrosynthesized Ni-P nanospheres with high activity and selectivity towards photoelectrochemical plastics reforming," has been accepted in Applied Catalysis B: Environmental (see paper).

April  Collaboration Project, entitled "On the composition of NCA cathode with Li1+x+yAlxTi2-xSiyP3-yO12 -conducting solid electrolyte towards high performance of NCA based lithium-ion battery" was approved by E-ONE MOLI ENERGY Corp.

September Our paper, entitled "Colorimetric and amperometric detection of urine creatinine based on the ABTS radical cation modified electrode," was awarded "Distinguished Paper Award" by Association of Chemical Sensors in Taiwan

July Mr. Zheng-Xun You, Miss Chia-Hui Yen, Mr. Zi-Xuan Wang join our lab. Shih-Ching and Ting-Rong won the Silver award for their oral presentations, entitled " Nanoporous nickel-iron oxyhydroxide: Electrosynthesis, activation, and applications towards photoelectrochemical water oxidation" and "Synthesis and electrocatalytic application of free-standing exfoliated V2O5 nanosheets decorated with noble metals", respectively, in the 38th Taiwan Symposium of Catalysis and Reaction Engineering

June The MOST project, entitled "Development of amperometric microfluidic sensing chip for the detection of cardiovascular biomarkers in urine ," has been approved. The collaborative paper, entitled "Urine N‐terminal pro b‐type natriuretic peptide is predictive of heart failure‐related emergency department visits", has been accepted in ECS Heart Failure (see paper).

May Our paper, entitled "Simultaneous enhancement in charge separation and interfacial charge transfer of BiVO4 photoanode for photoelectrochemical water oxidation," has been accepted in Journal of the Taiwan Institute of Chemical Engineers (see paper).

April Shing-Ching won the Lam Research Science and Technology Thesis Award (see news). Our paper, entitled "Sustainable and selective formic acid production from photoelectrochemical methanol reforming at near-neutral pH using nanoporous nickel-iron oxyhydroxide-borate as the electrocatalyst," has been accepted in Chemical Engineering Journal (see paper).

Collaborative paper, entitled "Sandwich-Nanostructured n-Cu2O/AuAg/p-Cu2O Photocathode with Highly Positive Onset Potential for Improved Water Reduction," has been accpeted in ACS Appl. Mater. Interfaces (see paper).

2018

October Our paper entitled, "Iron phosphate modified calcium iron oxide as an efficient and robust catalyst in electrocatalyzing oxygen evolution from seawater," has been accepted in Faraday Discussions (see paper).

September  Mr. Ming-Chun Tsai, Mr. Yu-Cheng Huang, and Mr. Shun-Min Jhang join our lab for their Master program. Mr. Guillaume Navallon from Graduate School of Chemistry, Biology an Physics of Bordeaux, France, joins our lab for one-year mini project on water splitting. Shing-Ching moved to National Insititue for Materials Science (NIMS), Japan, for 2-month internship via Pilot Overseas Internship Program sponsored by Ministry of Education.

August Chia-Yu has been promoted to Associate Professor (starting on February 2018.

July Van's paper, entitled "CoOx nanoparticles modified CuBi2O4 submicron-sized square columns as a sensitive and selective sensing material for amperometric detection of glucose", has been accepted in Journal of the Taiwan Institute of Chemical Engineers.

June Yvonne receives Joussot-Dubien Fellowship (10000 Euro) and will carry out one-year research at ENSCBP, France starting this September. MOST project, entitled "Development of amperometric microfluidic sensing chip for the detection of cardiovascular biomarkers in urine," has been approved.

March  Chia-Ting received the Lam Research Science and Technology Thesis Award (see news).

2017

November  Hung-Chun's paper, entitled"Calcium containing iron oxide as an efficient and robust catalyst in (photo-)electrocatalytic water oxidation at neutral pH," has been accepted in Sustainable Energy & Fuels (see paper). Wei-Hsiang and Shing-Ching Huang won the Honorable and Merit Award, respectively, for their presentations in 64th TwICHE Annual Meeting.

September  Miss  Yu-Chien Chueh, Miss Shing-Ching Huang, and Mr. Wei-Hsiang Huang join our lab for their Master program. 

June Chia-Yu received Travel fund from RSC Energy Sustainable Environmental Division. Chia-Yu received Emerging Investigator Award from College of Engineering, NCKU. Yvonne's paper, entitled"Pulse electrosynthesized nanoporous nickel oxyhydroxide-borate thin film in electro- and photoelectro-reforming of methanol for selective production of formate," has been collected in 2017 ChemComm Emerging Investigator Issue (see news). 

May Yvonne's paper, entitled"Pulse electrosynthesized nanoporous nickel oxyhydroxide-borate thin film in electro- and photoelectro-reforming of methanol for selective production of formate," has been accepted in ChemComm (see paper).  Cheng-Hsien's paper, entitled "CuO nanoparticles decorated nano-dendrite-structured CuBi2O4 for highly sensitive and selective electrochemical detection of glucose," was awarded "Outstanding Paper Award" by Association of Chemical Sensors in Taiwan.

January  Cheng-Hsien's paper, entitled "CuO nanoparticles decorated nano-dendrite-structured CuBi2O4 for highly sensitive and selective electrochemical detection of glucose," has been accepted in Electrochim. Acta (see paper). Miss Shing-Ching Huang won second prize in the competition of NCKU-RCETS Undergraduate Student Project on Energy Technology and Strategy.

2016

September  Mr. Ramesh Subramani joins our lab for his PhD program. Miss Thi Hai Van Nguyen and Miss Juliette Thomas, from Graduate School of Chemistry, Biology an Physics of Bordeaux, France, join our lab for their one-year mini project. Mr. Zhi-Ting Yi joins our lab for their master program.

July  MOST project, entitled "Synthesis of phosphorylated metallophthalocyanines and its applications in electrocatalysis and photoelectrocatalysis of CO2 (105-2221-E-006-230-MY2)", has been approved. Miss Wei-Ting Wong and Mr. Shao-Yu Lin join our lab for their master program. Miss Shing-Ching Huang and Mr. Chih-Chieh Cheng join our lab for her undergraduate mini project. 

June Chia-Ting's 2nd paper, entitled "Electrochemical reduction of hydrogen peroxide by nanostructured hematite modified electrodes" has been accepted in RSC Adv. (see paper).

February Mr. Chuan-Yao Lu joins our lab. Miss Mavinia Allagu and Mr. Kuek Yee Rui, from Universiti Teknologi Petronas, Malaysia, start their internship project in our lab. Miss Emeline Onno, an exchange student from Graduate School of Chemistry, Biology an Physics of Bordeaux, France, joins our lab. .

September Our first two-year MOST project, entitled "Metal sulfide modified photonic metal oxide photocathode in photoelectrochemical CO2 reduction (102-2218-E006-014-MY2)", has been approved. Mr. Febryan Harmansyah, a graduate student in Prof. Ea-Mor Woo's lab, joins our lab, and he will be co-supervised by Prof. Wu and Prof. Lin.

August  Professor V.S. Vasantha, from Dept. Chem., Madurai Kamaraj University, India, visits our lab. Undergraduate Jia-Xing Wu joins the lab. The Lin's lab is born in Dept. ChE, NCKU.
