Div 4 League
Fuerty entertained St Brigids in the division 4 league last Wednesday evening in Mulhern Park. After a battling performance from the home side, Brigids left with the two points. Playing into the breeze in the opening half, Fuerty played very well and the ball retention was excellent, however some wayward shooting let them down. With the half time score at Fuerty 0-6 Brigids 0-6 it looked like a home win was on the cards especially seen as Fuerty would have the aid of the breeze for the second period. Injuries to David Flaherty and Paul Hickey hampered Fuerty and with Brigids showing some more accuracy along with getting a strong foothold in midfield the second half did not go to script. A Peter Leahy goal midway through the half drew Fuerty level but that was as good as it got as Brigids pulled away to record a win on a scorelne of Fuerty 1-12 Brigids 1-16
Junior B Championship
The next round of the Junior B Championship should be coming up soon as we have now qualified from the group stages this will be an important winner takes all game. We are unsure of our opponents yet.
A good late run of victories means that we will be playing Kilglass Gaels in the Tansey Cup semi – final however a date has not been fixed for this game.
With these two very important games coming up along with a possible quarter final in the Intermediate championship, all players are asked to attend training.
Well done to the Tremane hurlers who overcame St Domnicks at the weekend and best of luck to Athleague who get their championship underway next Saturday against Oran.
Club notes 7th July 2010
Fuerty tasted defeat in the intermediate championship on Sunday evening last when Strokestown came to Mulhern Park and left with the two points. In a first half the home side had lots of possession but still amazingly went in to the break without registering a score. With both sides adopting a sweeper system it meant that playing against the breeze scores were particularly hard to come by. A resolute defence kept Fuerty in the game and with Tom Bannon and Anthony Leahy leading the charge from the full back line it looked like the six point lead that Strokestown had at half time could be overturned. A lively start to the second half saw Fuerty claw their way back into the game and with 12 minutes remaining the score was 0-7 to 0-5, however, this was as good as it got as a soft free followed by a goal from a penalty were the only scores after that. Its back to the drawing board for Fuerty now as they will wait on the result between Strokestown and Kilglass anxiously to see if there will be a quarter final to be played or if it will be the end of the road for 2010.

Junior B Championship
Fuerty had an excellent win over St Brigids in the Junior B Championship in
Knockcroghery last Sunday. A lively Fuerty team moved the ball with great speed and
opened up the Brigids defence on a number of occasions which resulted in frees. Playing
and indeed they only went in at half time one point in arrears. The Fuerty scores coming
from Owen Cattigan 3 frees , attacking wing back Cormac Kelly and James Bannon. The
half time score was Fuerty 0-5, Brigids 0-6
The second half started at a blistering pace and an excellent, free flowing movement
saw Luke Fannon through on goal and his finish would not have been out of place in
the World Cup as he coolly slotted the ball under the goalkeeper to give Fuerty the lead
for the first time and in truth they never looked threatened from this point on as a half
back line of Peter Leahy, Johnny Blighe and Cormac Kelly completely dominated and
launched attack after attack in the second half. Fannon added another point soon after the
goal and then it was the turn of fellow veteran Frank Farrell to show his class as a five
minute spell midway through the half saw him torment the Brigids defence with three
excellent points. The Fuerty scoring was rounded off with points from Cathal Quigley
and Blighe. Final Score – Fuerty 1 – 16, Brigids 0 – 7.
Team: R. Kilcommons, E. Whyte, J. Connolly, D. Dillon, C. Kelly (0-1) J. Blighe (0-

Subs – L. Heaney for Bannon, C. Quigley (0-1) for Faye, N. Heaney for Fannon
The Fuerty Intermediate team will welcome Strokestown to Mulhern Park on Sunday
next at 6.30. After a fine victory over Kilglass Gaels, Fuerty will be hoping to make it
two out of two against favourites Strokestown. Please come out and support the lads.
Club notes 31st May 2010
We had a comprehensive victory over St Joseph’s on Sunday last in Mulhern Park. On a scorcher of a day it took both teams a while to settle and a half time score of 0-5 to 0-2 showed that the heat was a telling factor. The Fuerty scores came from Gearoid Ennis, Niall Kilroy 2 each and Peter Kellehan. The second half was much more productive for Fuerty and some fine flowing moves and accurate shooting made sure of the two points. Excellent scores from Tom Reddington, Kilroy, Ennis, Alan Cunniffe and a superb effort from Aodhan Quigley gave Fuerty a final score of 0-18 to St Joseph’s 1-4
The only blot on the Fuerty copybook was a shoulder injury to Niall Keenan in the dying minutes.

Club notes 10th May 2010
Fuerty had a comprehensive win over Castlerea in the Tansey Cup on May 1st. Played in Castlerea a dominant start gave Fuerty the platform to go on and win easily. A Gary Fallon goal followed by four Gearoid Ennis frees and another Fallon point left the visitors leading by 1-5 to 0-3 at half time.
In the second half Fuerty took over and further goals from Niall Keenan and Fallon again were added to by points from Ennis (3) Aodhan Quigley, Mervyn Connaughton, Mark Keaveney (2) Fallon and Dave Connell to leave the final score at Fuerty 3-13, Castlerea 0-7
Junior B Championship
On Saturday last Fuerty entertained Clan na Gael in the Junior B championship in Mulhern Park. A young Fuerty team played some lovely flowing football early on and excellent points from Tom Reddington (2) and Dave Connell (3) followed by an Eoin Cattigan free on the stroke of half time left the home side leading by 0-6 to 0-2.
It looked like Fuerty would pull away and win comfortably but Clan dug in and some missed chances from the Fuerty forward line let Clan back in. At the start of the Second half Eoin Cattigan extended the Fuerty lead with 3 points but then Clan struck for a goal. This was followed immediately by a cool finish from Mossy Connaughton to send the ball to the back of the Clan net. However another Clan goal left the game in the balance with only one point between the teams. Fuerty rallied and points late on from Reddington and Darragh Heavey gave Fuerty victory on a scoreline of 1-11 to 2-5

A most enjoyable day was had by all on last Sunday for la na gclub. Some exciting underage games from St. Ciarans footballers was followed by a close fought game between the under 16 girls and Gaelic for Mothers team. To round off the day a game was played between local Bulls(married players) and Stags (single players). Some fine Bull performances from Seamus Cuddy and Frank Kilcommons along with goals from Tom Lavin and Kieran Mullen meant that the Stags will have to get into training to try and restore some pride next year.

Club notes 21st April 2010
This weekend our Junior B team played St. Aidans in Fuerty. Despite a freeflowing first half with both sets of forwards carving the opposition defences apart this is not a game that will live long in the memory. The ideal conditions meant for fast football and indeed a Niall Connolly goal and point in the first couple of minutes set Fuerty up well. This was followed by a fine score under pressure by James Cuddy. Aidans stayed in touch and midway through the half they scored a goal of their own to draw themselves level. Two Owen Cattigan frees and points from Niall Keenan and Shane McGeeney meant that Fuerty went into half time leading by one point on a scoreline of Fuerty 1 – 6, St. Aidans 1 – 5. Amazingly there was only one more score in the game, a Darragh Heavey point at the death of a dour half of football. Both teams made numerous mistakes and some good defending and poor shooting meant that Heavey has the last word and left Fuerty victors by two point. 1-7 to 1-5
There is a Div. 4 game scheduled away to Faithleachs next weekend. Check fixtures for details.
Hard luck to club players Eamon Bannon and Niall Kilroy on their defeat to Dublin last Saturday evening.
Club notes 12th April 2010
Fuerty played Kilglass Gaels on Saturday evening in Mulhern Park and came away with a two point victory. It was a close game throughout and a lucky Alan Cunniffe goal midway through the first half proved to be the vital score. In a lively start scores were swapped with what was like championship pace and after only ten minutes Gary Fallon, Peter Kellehan and Mark Keaveney had all pointed for the home side but Kilglass were one point to the good. From here to half time Fuerty played their best football and Cunniffe’s goal along with four points from Gearoid Ennis left the half time score at Fuerty 1-7 Kilglass 0-6
In the second half scores were much harder to come by through a combination of good defending from both sets of backs and some wayward shooting. In fact Fuerty only scored two points in the half one an Ennis free and the other a fine team effort which Niall Keenan finished off with only five minutes remaining. However the Fuerty defence kept their opponents to just four points which left the full time score at Fuerty 1-09, Kilglass 0-10

Club notes 28th March 2010
It was another narrow defeat for our Intermediate team on Sunday. This time, visitors Padraig Pearses left Mulhern Park with a one point win. On a lovely day for football Fuerty never seemed to settle into the game and Pearses took full advantage of this. After just 10 minutes Pearses had two goals and two points scored and all Fuerty had in reply was one point. We could never claw back this lead fully. Pearses scored two more first half points and for the first time Fuerty showed some urgency which resulted in five quick fire points before half time. Half time score Pearses 2-4, Fuerty 0-6. Pearses again got the upper hand after the restart and tagged on two more points before a Tom Reddington goal sparked some life into Fuerty leaving only 3 points between the teams with almost 20 minutes to play. A couple of Tom Hickey frees left the minimum between the teams but Pearses rallied and for the last ten minutes they defended bravely and matched Gearoid Ennis points with frees of their own. Fuerty just came up short in the end. Final Score: Fuerty 1-10, Pearses 2-8
Team: J.Fallon, D. Heavey, D. Mullin, A. Leahy, T. Carr, A. Moore, M. Keaveney, A. Cunniffe, D. Delaney(0-1), T. Hickey(0-4) P. Kellehan, N. Keenan, N. Connolly(0-1) T. Reddington(1-0) G. Ennis(0-4)

In the Div 4 league Fuerty had a fine victory away to Clan na Gael on Saturday evening. The Fuerty team showed great fight and determination along with plenty of skill. In a game in which the younger players expressed their talents superbly Fuerty looked dangerous with every attack. In the First half, midfield dominance by Shane McGeeney and in particular Niall Keenan gave Fuerty the perfect platform. Indeed a fine goal from Keenan followed two Niall Connolly points and minutes later John Connolly set up Ronan Faye for a second goal for Fuerty. During this purple patch David Flaherty and Tommy Carr both burst out of defence to add excellent scores and it looked as if Fuerty would be out of sight by half time, but some poor shooting coupled with a spirited Clan comeback left the half time score at Fuerty 2-4, Clan 0-5
The second half went along the same lines as the first. Early Fuerty dominance led to a healthy lead and Connolly finished off a fine flowing move involving Mossy Connaughton and Cormac Kelly the game seemed to be over as a contest. However some quick fire points brought Clan from 9 points down to just 3 in arrears. A David Flaherty point and another Connolly free steadied Fuerty who defended resolutely in the final few minutes. Final Score: Fuerty 3-9, Clan 0-15
Team: R. Kilcommons, A. Leahy, T. Carr(0-1)D. Dillon D. Flaherty(0-2) A. Moore A. Quigley. N.Keenan(1-0) S. Mcgeeney C.Kelly B.Keenan C Melia J. Connolly, N.Connolly(1-6) R.Faye (1-0)

Club notes 22nd February 2010
Our Intermediate team had their second draw of the campaign against Strokestown on Saturday evening. The game was evenly balanced all through with never more than a couple of points separating the teams at any time. Despite having the lions share of possession Fuerty’s inability to take the right options up front meant that Strokestown went into the half time break leading by 4 points to 3. Fuerty’s points coming from Tom Hickey, Anthony Leahy and Mervyn Connaughton. In the second half Fuerty started brightly and with good scores from Peter Kelleghan and Tom Reddington looked like they would pull away from the home side but some soft frees kept Strokestown in the hunt. A goal from a quick free where the Fuerty defence switched off left Strokestown two points ahead heading into the final quarter. This could have been a killer blow in what was a low scoring game but Fuerty rallied and with Eamon Bannon and Kelleghan running at the defence Fuerty regained the lead late on. However, late indiscipline gave Strokestown the chance to level. Final Score Fuerty 0-9, Strokestown 1-6.
Team: J. Fallon, M.Keaveney, T. Bannon, D. Mullin, T. Carr, S. Melia, E. Bannon, D. Delaney, T. Hickey, S. McGeeney, P. Kelleghan, M. Connaughton, N. Connolly, T. Reddington, A. Leahy.

Fuerty team went down to Oran on Sunday morning and after a hard battle, where Fuerty never gave in ended up in Oran winning the game by a point. Some fine displays around the field meant that this game was in the balance right to the final whistle. Some fine displays from Alan Moore and Darragh Heavey in defence, and Ronan Faye and James Cuddy in attack kept Fuerty in the game. Two late goals from Niall Keenan and Cuddy nearly won the game for a gallant Fuerty. Final Score: Fuerty 2-8, Oran 3- 6
Team: R. Kilcommons, S. Kilcommons, T. Brennan, D. Dillon, A. Quigley, A. Moore 0-1, D. Heavey 0-1. S. McGeeney, N. Keenan 1-1, C. Kelly D. Mullin 0-1, R. Faye 0-3, P. Hickey, J. Ennis, J. Cuddy 1-1

Club notes 22nd February 2010
Our intermediate team played Clan na Gael last Sunday in Mulhern Park in cold but calm conditions. From early on it looked like it would be a close affair and indeed this is what it turned out to be with the sides ending in deadlock. The first quarter was tit for tat with Gearoid Ennis on target from a free and Niall Connolly scoring an excellent point from play. These scores were either side of two Clan na Gael scores. This was as good as it got for Fuerty in the first half as Clan finished much stronger with three unanswered points leaving the half time score at Fuerty 0-2, Clan na Gael 0-5. The Fuerty management brought on Anthony Leahy and Niall Keenan at half time and in the second period Fuerty were much more competitive and played some excellent football at times. The Fuerty backs led by Tom Bannon and David Mullin in the full back line left Clan depending on scraps of possession for their scores. Up the other end the Fuerty forward line seemed to click into gear a bit better and a few flowing moves ended in scores from Tom Hickey and Keenan. Clan kept their lead until the last five minutes but Ennis with his accuracy from frees ensured that Fuerty clawed their opponents back on the scoreboard and that the scores finished level at 0-9 each.
Team: J. Fallon, M. Keaveney, T. Bannon, D. Mullin, D. Heavey, S. Melia, P. Kelleghan, A. Cunniffe, T. Hickey(0-2), T. Carr, G. Fallon, M. Connaughton(0-1), N. Connolly(0-1), T. Reddington, G. Ennis(0-4).
Subs: N. Keenan(0-1) for Carr, A. Leahy for Reddington, A. Quigley for Fallon, A. Moore for Heavey, T. Reddington for Connaughton.
After the game a presentation of vouchers was made to the management which were kindly sponsored by Domnick Connolly. The management would like to thank Domnick for his generosity.

Club notes 15th February 2010
Our Intermediate team had a good hard fought victory over local rivals Creggs on Saturday evening. The game was played in ideal conditions and even though it is still very early in the season both sides put up good performances. From the off it was clear that Fuerty had a bit more preparation done and some early scores from Gearoid Ennis, Tom Hickey and Tom Reddington put Fuerty into a healthy lead. Mervyn Connaughton, Gary Fallon and Ennis again along with some strong defending ensured that Fuerty headed to the half time break leading by 7 points to 1.
The Second half was much more keenly contested and scores were hard to come by. Creggs dug in and the game was in the balance up to the very end. Some excellent defending from David Mullin, Aodhan Quigley and Sean Melia held out a skilful Creggs forward line. Points from Connaughton and Ennis left the full time score at Fuerty 0-9, Creggs 0-4.
Team: J. Fallon, D. Mullin, T. Bannon, A. Quigley, D. Heavey, S. Melia, E. Bannon, T. Hickey, D. Delaney, T. Carr, G. Fallon, M. Connaughton, N. Connolly, T. Reddington, G. Ennis. Subs: S. McGeeney, K. Boyle, R. Faye, C. Kelly, J. Cuddy, R. Kilcommons.
