San Damiano Crucifix

San Damiano Crucifix
The San Damiano Crucifix holds a particular significance for Franciscans. At the small chapel of San Damiano in Assisi, Francis prayed before the crucifix located there and was inspired to “repair the Church which was falling into ruin.” The original crucifix now hangs in the Basilica of Saint Clare in Assisi. You may wish to spend some time in prayer meditating on this icon.

Francis loved to pray before the crucifix. His prayer was:

Most High, glorious God,
enlighten the darkness of my heart
and give me true faith, certain hope,
and perfect charity, sense and knowledge, Lord,
that I may carry out Your holy and true command. Amen.

What is your prayer? What do you have to say to Jesus? Why not tell him now?
