12 Swing Gate
At the end of the south-east 5-wire fence is a simple swing gate. This was used to provide access between the house and the stock grazing area, (which is now the Village Green).
The gate is made using four horizontal battens held by screws between two vertical battens at each end. The gate is braced by a diagonal batten fixed to one side of the battens. The hinges are bolted to the gate and the gate with hinges is hung on gudgeon pins that are screwed into the rimu post at the end of the 5-wire fence.
This design gives a gate that is light and therefore easy to open. The gate also swings both ways due to the hinge system used.
