8th Street Access Ramp
Lawrence, KS

River Mile: 51     GPS:  N38.97176  W95.21614
River Left

From I-70 take the east Lawrence exit #204 and follow U.S.59 south into Lawrence approximately 3 miles. You will go under the railroad overpass and turn left at the stop light on to Locust Street. From Locust Street turn right on 8th and go south for 3 blocks. Go over levee and follow the road to the gravel parking lot.

Access Info:
Gravel parking lot also has access to biking/hiking trails. The ramp has tendency to silt in after high water so you might want to bring a flat noses shovel to clean the lower ramp. The ramp is narrow. You can call the City of Lawrence Park and Recreation office to request a clean-up.
Informational signage (see below) was added to this park by Friends of the Kaw with funds from the Elizabeth Schultz Environmental Foundation and the Kansas Humanities Council.  Signage includes information on local history, eagles and a Kansas River Access Map.

Float Info:
The next access is on Mud Creek 4 miles downstream at river mile 47.3.  You will need to take the river channel on the north side of a large island and paddle up Mud Creek about .5 mile.  This access is locked but you can obtain a key through Lawrence Parks and Recreation for a small fee.   Bowersock Dam is 1.4 mile upstream of this access.  If you plan to take out at the Mud Creek access ramp be sure to review the instructions on entering Mud Creek on the Mud Creek page.  If you plan to take out at the Eudora access ramp be sure to review the instructions on entering the Wakarusa River on the Eudora page.
