Blue Flag Canada

The Blue Flag is an internationally recognized and respected eco-label awarded to beaches that achieve high standards in water quality, environmental education, environmental management, safety and services. Environmental Defence coordinates the Blue Flag program in Canada. Sauble's water quality is monitored by the Grey Bruce Public Health Unit.

The process of bringing the Blue Flag program to Sauble Beach began in 2004 when Environmental Defence conducted a feasibility study of Sauble Beach using the international Blue Flag criteria. Since that time, the Friends of Sauble Beach and the
Town of South Bruce Peninsula had worked hard to ensure that Sauble Beach met all the imperative criteria.

In 2005, Sauble Beach entered into the pilot phase of the program and received a Blue Flag Candidate Certificate. From 2006 through 2015,
Sauble Beach was awarded Blue Flag certification. In 20015, the Blue Flag Designation was revoked.
