Welcome to Mead Base Conservation Center

The Mead Base Farmhouse

Please join us for our Mid-Summer Gathering, July 24, 5-7pm at Mead Base Conservation Center.

Located at the end of a dirt road in Center Sandwich, NH, Mead Base Conservation Center is the southernmost entry to the White Mountain National Forest (WMNF). The Base includes an old farmhouse, several outbuildings and cabins and three campsites on 11 acres. Friends of Mead Base Conservation Center, through a lease from the US Forest Service, preserves and maintains the property for the public’s use.

Mead, with its year-round parking, serves as a launch pad for several trailheads including the Wentworth Trail up Mt. Israel, the Bear Camp River Trail, and the hike to Cow Cave and Beede Falls. Many birding, tracking, nature and historic walks begin at Mead. Throughout the summer, trail crews, Audubon interns, and artists make Mead their base. The Base includes several campsites, and groups can rent the main room and kitchen by the day for special gatherings.

Whether you’re looking for a day trip or a camping experience, come visit Mead Base Conservation Center and enjoy the spectacular scenery and the many adventures that abound!
