Kelvin Valley

Kilsyth and Villages enjoy the tremendous environment of the Kelvin Valley, with hills and glens, burns and canal, fields and woods. It is difficult to remember this was once at the heart of coal and iron mining, quarrying and coke production. Now old bings have been turned into woodlands and a nature reserve, mining subsidence flashes have become vital wetland for wildlife, and the old mineral railways have been turned into a popular pathway system. Check the leaflets and guidebooks linked to this website for further information, including wildlife, landscape, mining heritage and renewal.
