FOCAS Newsletter

FOCAS Newsletter is a colour-illustrated quarterly magazine which is circulated to all members and is deposited in each of the archive centres.  It includes reports from Cumbria archivists of new acquisitions and activities, reviews of events and publications, news of Friends events and assistance and items of archival interest.

FOCAS89
FOCAS 89 celebrated Cumbria Archives becoming the first service in the country to be awarded accreditation under the new system introduced by the National Archives. It also said thank you to two members who have left the committee; a report of the members' day; an article on quarter sessions petitions; news of recent accessions and events in each of the county offices; book reviews and a report on the Explore your Archives campaign in November.

FOCAS 88 included details of Felicity Kendal's visit to Barrow and Millom for the TV series 'Secrets from the Workhouse'; caring for records in Bygone Days in Carlisle's old Town Hall; an indepth look at Barrow Archives and Local Studies; an obituary of Bruce Jones, the County's first archivist; Lord Clark's and Professor Michael Mullett's forthcoming talks; Cumbria Vernacular Buildings Group; records for iron ore mining and lists of new acquisitions to all the archives.
