Alexandra Park - Crown Green Bowling

Introduction: Crown Green Bowling on Alexandra Park has a long history going back to the 1930’s when the 2 bowling greens and main pavilion we have today were established. Currently the greens can be used by members of the public once a parks ticket is purchase from WBC provided no matches or competitions are in progress – see section on weekly bowling programme..

Alexandra Park Crown Green Bowling

Due to the number of individual clubs / teams operating on the park it was agreed, for administrative purposes only, to group the users together as ‘Stockton Heath Park Bowling Club’.

The club bowlers operate from the recently refurbished pavilion by the No1 bowling green, the facility is used for meetings and can cater for up to 40 persons. A café operates from the building on Saturday afternoons through the summer months. Details of the individual sections of Stockton Heath Park Bowling Club are outlined below.
Stockton Heath Seniors Bowling Club: The club is open to ladies and gents with an interest in Crown Green Bowling, there are two tiers of membership, full membership for bowlers who want to play in one of the 3 park teams operating in the “Warrington and District Seniors Bowling League”, secondly social membership for bowlers who just want to take part in the various social bowling activities. The 2 tiers of membership carry different yearly fees. Persons new to bowling are recommended to start as social bowlers progressing if they so wish to team bowling.

The club currently has between 80 – 90 members, of which approximately 60 are full members, with the remainder social members. A committee looks after the activities of the club and meets every month throughout the year. New members are most welcome and only need to complete a simple application form to join.

The club activities include:

League team bowling.

Weekly social bowling competitions.

Away day bowling trips across Cheshire with lunch, prizes, etc.

Visits to Prestatyn Indoor Bowling Centre through the Winter Months.

Team bowling in the indoor winter bowling league at Birchwood.

Christmas Lunch.

Winter dominoes.

 

Stockton Heath Ladies Bowling Club: The club has approximately 40 members who play bowls every Tuesday and Thursday afternoon throughout the bowling season. Start time is 1.00pm. In addition there are occasional bowling away days with meals as well bowling days on the park with buffets and hotpots. Through the winter months a group of 16/18 ladies play whist in the pavilion on Tuesdays and Thursday afternoons. New members are always welcome.

Warrington Public Parks League Teams: Two teams, Stockton Heath 1 and Stockton Heath 3 play alternate weeks on Tuesday evenings from April through to September in the park. Teams comprise of 10 open age male players and the teams play games against other parks teams in the Warrington area. New players are always welcome.

 

WI Bowlers: A small group of lady bowlers who play on Tuesday mornings on number 2 green and use the small bowling hut located there.
