Snacks and Lunch

Snack times are used to help children develop independence through making choices, preparing and serving food and drink and feeding themselves.

Freshford Pre-School aims to provide snacks which are nutritious and varied, and which do not contain large quantities of sugar, fat, salt and no artificial additives, preservatives, flavourings or colourings. The range of snacks offered includes fruit, vegetables, cheese, hard boiled eggs, hummus, oatcakes, rice cakes, and breadsticks. Children are offered fresh water or milk to drink at snack time and actively encouraged to help themselves to water at any time during the session or after physical/ energetic play and in hot weather.

We let parents and carers know what snacks have been offered to the children on a particular day, through our white board where we display the day's activities at the end of Pre-school.

Parents/carers are asked to inform Freshford Pre-School of their children’s dietary requirements at the time of registration.

All Freshford Pre-School sessions include lunch. Children bring a packed lunch from home and enjoy a chance to socialise at the table. Parents are encouraged to provide healthy and balanced lunches including fruit and/or vegetables, and minimise the provision of crisps and sweets. Because of the risk of allergies children are not permitted to swap food. An ice pack should be provided during summer months.
