About us

Cross-disciplinary skills and expertise

Teaching, security management and criminology are by definition, multi-disciplinary studies. This broad work experience and extensive education and training provide a useful cross-fertilization of skills and knowledge with many insights that cannot be gained from expertise in any one discipline alone. Cross-disciplinary study has both horizontal and vertical dimensions for which, the ability to link and present the various skills and disciplines within a coherent framework guided by consistent principles and concepts at all levels of application, no matter the context, is an invaluable skill that enhances non-linear (out of the box) diagnostic, reflective and critical thinking. The training provides benefits far beyond the traditional borders of basic physical security provision, such as staff morale and effectiveness (i.e. savings in operating costs and labour turnover), customer satisfaction and third-party security / public relations, where customers and other associates or affected persons are concerned.

Our Instructor qualifications include vocational teacher (Lecturer) in higher-education for security and, business organization topics, an M.Sc. in Security and Risk Management, the IFPO Certified Protection Officer certificate, NLP Master Practitioner certificate,  and for many years the local Finnish state qualifications and work experience as public order/door supervisors (Järjestyksenvalvoja/portsari) and security guard/retail (vartija/vahtimestari), with use of force rights, including pepper spray, baton, TKP and hand-cuff permits.

Backed by a philosophy of continuous learning, research and development, this holistic approach allows us to bridge the gap between knowledge silos for a truly borderless learning experience, yet ease and speed your learning with accelerated learning programmes tailored to your needs.

To this end, other professional work experience includes accountancy, finance systems application support, IT project managementEnglish language teachingWe have even done a little acting in the Finnish Tv series 'Salatut Elämät' and other stunt-acting work for a Mocap motion capture production, the video for which you can see below.

As it is below, so it is above

Additionally, we also have many years of training and teaching experience in Lii-Kan Jitsu (Jiu Jitsu and then some, since 1982) and Kyusho (Kyusho International), supported by relentless study of other styles such as Wing Chun, Filipino arts (E.g. Kali/Escrima) and Katori (Japanese weapon systems).  More recent training activities include Parkour and even some basic Break-dancing, or, 'Breaking' as participants now like to refer to it. For more info, see 'Our Staff' page.

Our personal security training and teaching experience is extensive, since 1982. That's over 35 years of training and 30 years of teaching experience with the foundation and teaching of 5 clubs since 1987, the latest one being the Espoon Liikan Jitsu Club Ry, founded in 2018. We are as accustomed to teaching children as we are adults, and have conducted many successful demos and courses for local authorities and schools in both the UK (e.g. New Malden) and in Finland, e.g. Uomarinteentie koulu, Myymäki, Viherlaakso Lukiokoulu in Espoo, the Vantaa City 'Liikuva Koulu' sports and demo days, and, the Kalajärvi School, Espoo, where we were invited back to teach our own brand of dynamic physical education sessions for the entire school. We also run evening sports clubs and afternoon groups for school kids for the City of Vantaa.

Not just another attitude, but, a way of thinking

Our self-defence training from which, our personal security system is based on Lii-Kan Jitsu. The outlook and approach to our personal training that Lii-Kan Jitsu pursues and imbues, feeds directly back into our professional lives and approach to the work we do. It generates not just a body of (otherwise life-less) technical knowledge, but a way of thinking and the skills to apply it. For more information about Lii-Kan Jitsu, please see their club pages at  www.liikanjitsu.club (https://sites.google.com/site/liikanjitsu/ ).

'To be or, not to be?

You can walk and talk like a general all you like, but without the substance, it all just an illusion, a smokescreen. No 'leader' can properly direct and manage their team if they cannot lead from the front with the knowledge, skills and experience to back it up - that would just be 'Hollow Management'. So, if you would like to know how the principles and methods of self-defence and martial arts, link and relate to modern security, conflict intervention and risk management, you will find no better resource.  We can provide you with an integrated framework of knowledge that makes it much easier and quicker for you to understand and learn.

On the other hand, if you are willing to spend the time to work it all out for yourself, you can start by reading Sun Zu's treatise 'The Art of War' and Musashi's 'The Book of Five Rings.' But it might take another 30 or 40 years of hard training and study, assuming you succeed at all. These books are well worth the read in either case.
