Crab Shack, Orient, LI

Long range view of the salt marshes approaching the village of Orient on LI's North Fork. The crab shack on piles along the shore is a local landmark which is notable for it's Christmas wreath lit for the holiday season. This view is an early morning look in midsummer.

Daybreak - Baiting Hollow, Long Island

Named for a local hollow where travelers could "bait" (feed) their horses during colonial times, this scene shows early morning light filtering through the farm lot mists along Sound Avenue - one of the area's first roads.

Beach House - Jamesport,
Long Island

Private Collection
Restored by its current owners, the dwelling is representative of the many summer homes that sprang up around Peconic Bay in the early nineteen hundreds. The pillared porch just invites memories of summer afternoons and wicker rockers.

The Old Mill, Peconic

Shown as originally built before a later windmill addition. It was destroyed by a blizzard in the 1890's and left to deteriorate. This tidal mill operated by gating an incoming tide and releasing it at low tide to turn the mill wheels.

Wind Mill, Water Mill

Private Collection
Wind mill standing in the farm lots of Water Mill, Long Island in the late 1800's. Mills like this once dotted the South Fork of Long Island, taking advantage of the plentiful year round breezes. A handful survive as historical sites throughout the area.
