Ann Arbor District Event Results

posted Mar 31, 2011, 1:15 PM by Mariana Caamano

We made it into the 8th seed for elims! Unfortunately, we were knocked out of the elimation matches.
However, we came out of the competition with an Engineering Inspiration Award and a Dean's List Nomination.
We'll find out if we officially qualify for States at EMU this weekend, but if we don't, we will still present our Engineering Inspiration Presentation at the event and try to move the team on to Championships!
Work hard, get lots of sleep, and I hope to see you at States!

Yesterday's 3.5 Hour Unbagging

posted Mar 23, 2011, 12:17 PM by Mariana Caamano

So, we unbagged the robot for a bit yesterday! It was a productive session. We replaced these with modified versions:
  • Minibot deployment system
  • Arm transmission
  • Roller claw
The plan for today is to have most of the team help set up the Ann Arbor District Event and for pit crew and drive team to stay behind in the Rat Lab to work on autonomous tweaking and practice driving.
We're on schedule and fired up!
Ann Arbor District, here we come! :]

Ann Arbor District Event THIS FRIDAY!

posted Mar 21, 2011, 7:45 AM by Mariana Caamano

It's the final stretch for preparing for our hometown event!

We have a 4-hour meeting today from 6-10pm to get the following done:
  • New Arm Transmission
  • New Claw
  • New Minibot Deployment System
  • Extra Minibots
Most of these are replacements for stuff we broke during the last competition, so if we don't get them done, we won't have a perfectly functioning robot... so today's meeting is really important.

We made it as finalists at Traverse City, so let's make it all the way to finals this time!

Go team!

Brick Bash!

posted Mar 21, 2011, 7:37 AM by Mariana Caamano   [ updated Mar 21, 2011, 7:44 AM ]

Brick Bash was TONS of FUN!!
We taught a lot of kids about using engineering and Legos together to solve a problem. In this case, getting a rubber band or a Lego brick to hit the target.
We also demonstrated our Lego NXT machine gun that shot 7 Lego bricks per second at the target. :]
Brick Bash was a Lego wonder land, and we can't wait to volunteer next year too!

The pictures have been uploaded to the slideshow under the "Media Gallery" page!

For those of you that don't know, Brick Bash is a Lego Expo hosted in Ann Arbor that is open to all ages. Exhibitors from across the country flock to display their Lego creations: skyscraper recreations, Lego trains, Lego portraits, and Lego robots (our favorite!).

Many thanks to Duane Collicot, the organizer of the event, for holding this event every year and letting us join in the fun.

Traverse City Results!

posted Mar 8, 2011, 9:50 AM by Mariana Caamano

Guess which team became a finalist at the Traverse City District Competition? Team 830! :] Congratulations everyone! Thanks to 2767 and 2145 for being such great alliance partners!

Everyone had a ton of fun, so thanks to our mentors, sponsors, and parents for making the trip possible!

We helped take down the field afterward with Team 66 and forgoed a dinner party to start our trip home before the roads got too dangerous.

Even though our first competition is over and we're back in Ann Arbor, we're not done yet! After our experience in the real competition, we've discovered a lot of improvements we could make on our robot. Therefore, meetings will still be held on Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Next stop, the Ann Arbor District Event!

Guess what?

We're traveling to our first competition today!

I hope everyone got a lot of rest, because you'll need it.

Wish us luck and...

See you in Traverse City!

Hey everybody!

The non-perishable food was turned in to Food Gatherers yesterday.

Our official weight was 60 pounds! (that's a lot of food!)

We also made a monetary donation of $35.

The pictures are up in the photo gallery now (probably closer to the end of the slide show).

Food Drive UPDATE

posted Feb 25, 2011, 1:29 PM by Mariana Caamano

Our team is STILL running the food drive for Food Gatherers. So far we have collected around 47 lbs. of food, but we'd like to get more!

Please bring non-perishable food items or monetary donations this Saturday as it will be your last chance to turn these in before the drive ends.

The donations will be dropped off at Food Gatherers on Monday, and we will post a final weight here on the website!

Thanks for reading!
