Welcome to the Fox Valley Bat Detectives website!

The Fox Valley Bat Detectives is a collaborative citizen scientist program engaging volunteers in collecting acoustic monitoring data of threatened bat populations. After a successful pilot program at Heckrodt Wetland Reserve in 2011, the project has been expanded to include five other sites in Wisconsin's Fox Valley area...

Summer 2013: Week 10 Maps

It's hard to believe we're almost done with monitoring for the summer!  Here we have the maps from this past week at the WILD Center, Gardens of the Fox Cities, and 1000 Islands!  The weather was much cooler this week and the bats didn't seem to be quite as active (see maps below).

For those of you unfamiliar with the maps that I make, the blue lines represent the route we take at each site and the red dots are where we saved bat call files (aka heard bat activity)!

August 12 - WILD Center

The map from monitoring on Monday at the WILD Center! Looks like the bats were evenly distributed for us throughout the route

August 13 - Gardens of the Fox Cities

Sparse bat activity at the Gardens!

August 14 - Heckrodt

Unfinished monitoring session due to dysfunctional equipment!

August 15 - 1000 Islands

And last night at 1000 Islands! Again, not so much bat activity, though we did hear plenty of bugs with the detector!

August 6 - 1000 Islands

Fairly active night at Bubolz despite the storms from the night before; we took a slightly alternate route at the end to avoid the trees that were knocked over due to the storm.
