FOWNHOPE COMMUNITY ARCHIVE ON-LINE 2017

The Fownhope Community Archive is contained in several filing cabinets and a plan chest in the village. There is a general guide on this website. Much of the material is held on a laptop which has been available for inspection for a couple of years. We have put a selection of documents on-line, and can add more if there is sufficient demand.

Census details from 1841 to 1911 in ten EXCEL files, including the early (and rare) census for Mordiford from 1831. You will need to read the supporting general guide to ‘census 1841-1911’.

Tithe Map for 1843 – details owner and occupier of every field and building, with some information about the acreage. EXCEL file and guide notes in WORD.

Trade directories 1851-1941, EXCEL lists names, activities and location of most businesses, with suppoting guide notes.

School log book 1871-1966 summary of entries in log book written by the headteacher. The original logbooks are now available to read in HARC.

Land valuation lists 1910 – the ‘Lloyd George survey’ provided details of the owners and occupiers of each building and parcel or block of farm and woodland. Reproduced here as an EXCEL file, with some guide notes in WORD.
