Sunday 21st February saw approximately 40 paddlers from across the South West region facing the strong winds and cold to take part in the second regional marathon training day at Roadford Lake for this season.
Fowey, Exeter and Bradford on Avon canoe club coaches teamed up to run the event coaching paddlers from their own clubs as well as paddlers from Launceston college who are training for the Waterside and Devizes to Westminster races. It was great to see their improvement from the last training day in November, and we hope that some of them continue to paddle with us after the race at Easter.
The day consisted of three training sessions. In the morning, divisional group sessions on the water and a junior time trial followed by a group run. The afternoon saw a 6 mile divisional race where all of the paddlers did extremely well against the very cold, strong winds (please see attached results).
This was the second race to be organised at the lake and yet again saw strong winds, despite which everyone thoroughly enjoyed the day and are looking forward to the Hasler race which will be taking place here for the first time on Sunday 24th April. A big thank you to everyone who helped with the organising and running of this race, without whom these events would not be possible.
