Sunday 29th November saw approximately 50 paddlers from across the region braving high winds to take part in the regional marathon training day at roadford lake.
Coaching was provided by volunteers from Exeter, Fowey and Bradford on Avon canoe clubs along with individuals from Blundells, Mount Kelly school and Launceston college.
This was the first time we have had members of the local schools prospective DW crews attending and it was great to see how much they learnt in just one day. Caroline Reade from Launceston thanked everyone who gave up their day and said 'students learnt a lot and found it really valuable'. We look forward to continuing to work with the local schools throughout the winter months.
In addition to the DW focus groups, sessions were organised for the regions junior marathon paddlers which attracted paddlers from division 3-7.
The afternoons planned time trial was unfortunately cancelled due to the bad winds but portaging sessions were organised for both groups.
This was the first event that has been organised at the lake and despite the very windy conditions everyone enjoyed the day. The next regional training day takes place on Sunday 21st February and we hope to see even more paddlers attending.
