Fowey River Canoe Club have had a very successful summer with good turnouts and good results at the various regional events.
Despite coming a close 2nd to Truro in the Regional series , the club qualified for the National Hasler Finals and managed to turn the tables on the local rivals. Three of the younger paddlers qualified for their first National Final and put on a very creditable performance for both themselves and the Club with Matt Collinge coming 14th out of 41 and Caity Irwin with her K2 partner, Emma Riley, finishing 11th out of 37. Connor Peters and Dan Palmer took an oportunity to enter their K2 race in a former Australian 2012 Olympic Team boat. Unfortunately the gold medal eluded them this time.
Many congratulations go to Gloucester for the success in organising their first race. Their hospitality, organisation - and the weather - were first rate. Fowey are looking forward to seeing them in their new Club House next year.
Fowey are especially proud that it now has a good number of Lightnings regularly training and complementing the Club's turnout at the various races. The challenge will be to keep their interest through the winter months and hopefully their enthusiasn will prove fruitful at Fowey's home race at the end of October. Many congratulations to Aaron, Oliver, Will, Rory, Millie, Dillon and Alfie for gaining their 1 star award.
Last, but not least, many congratulations to Bronte Holden for her success as a GB team member at the French Nationals and also to Connor Peters to emerge the victor of a close fought race and be promoted to Div 1 earlier in the season
